Workout Here We Go!!!

I saw nothing in your posts about water consumption. And Muffy, I'm shocked that you're giving diet advice without mentioning it.

Water is extremely important. Your metabolism can be improved significantly by proper hydration. It will improve your ability to remove toxins, improve your bowel movements, and improve kidney function. Your body will retain less water, you will flush excess salts, you will feel better, and recover faster from workouts.

No one has asked about your orange juice. Is it fresh squeezed or from concentrate? If it's from concentrate, it may as well be a soda. Dump it if it is from concentrate. It's just hollow calories.

Red meat is not conducive to weight loss. Try chicken or turkey instead. You'll also find that chicken is not hormone laden, and that should make you feel better about eating it.

With the eggs, try throwing a yolk away and just doing 1 whole egg and 2 egg whites. You get the protein, but eliminate the cholesterol. You won't notice a difference in taste, but it's a great way to eat healthier. I used to mix a little in with oatmeal, since real oats can be a little bland.

Thans guys/gals.

Clay about the water i havent stated it but i am currently drinking about a gallon a day.

Muffy i will try incorporationg vegetables slowly. It is something i have not liked my whole life and i dont want my stomach to turn on me.

The orange juice is fresh squeezed.

I will try better today to meet my caloric intake :).

I was pretty sure I saw something about water ... and as you see he is drinking it.

There is no scientific evidence that dietary cholesterol is detrimental to health, so if you are suggesting to cut out egg yolk, it needs to be to cut fat out. Nothing wrong with this suggestion, but really not necessary as he isn't eating that much fat anywhere else.

The "red meat" he is eating is a thin, lean version and again nothing wrong with this either. It helps to get iron into his diet, since he isn't eating that many veggies.

Grunt - I am glad you acknowledge that you have to incorporate vegetables in slowly to be successful. I hope you come to like them as your taste buds mature.

Of course drinking ALOT of water is a major role here. I cut back on soda last week and have only been drinking water for these past 4 days or so. Im guessing i drink about 2-3 gallons a day now.

Ah ha, page one. See? Don't scrutinize me without looking at everything please!

have to add one more...i tried not to but i had to

Muffy..I dont know your age or level of experience..but get your head out of the recommendations that you are always quoting and do some research.

You actually tried to say omega 6's are good? Do you know anything about how horrible they are, the link to major obesity with high omega 6 in take..how compared to 50 years ago the fat population in this countrys omega 6 intake has risen to ridiculous levels whereas the healthy omega 3's are almost never injested.

Good luck to you in your field, but do some real world research..or believe what they tell you is right..dont read independent studies that prove how the govt knows very little and shows why this country is so obese and our healhty system draining us of so much money. You seem to have done little research into a field you plan on working in for life..maybe its about time to start. I am just baffled by some of your advice..veggie intake on this kid should be so much higher, not maybe 1 serving every 2 days..and you recommend omega 6's!!! Heres looking to a bunch of fat patients for you..for ever with this insight.

To KIng..Im glad you are keeping it up..it will take along time, but sustainable, healhty weight loss can only be accomplished through the long-term. Quick results will end quickly.

Wow flame much? Maybe you should read a little better bc I said that omega 6 are not that bad in moderation, that omega 3 is much better. But in the small amount he gets consuming egg yolk, is not an issue.

I also did recommend him to eat more veggies but you have to add them gradually. No one can succeed easily on instant overload. Duh he needs to eat more, did you not see the countless posts I made stating this? I also made a post giving him props for recognizing the fact that he must incorporate them in slowly if he wants to succeed. How would you like all of the sudden eating a cup of broccoli and a cup of cauliflower into your diet at dinner time all of the sudden, along with other snacks and sides of veggies, only to find out you had incontrollable gas and bloating from all of the fiber you weren't used to eating?

Im a realist here and there is no reason to recommend him to cut out egg yolk just bc it has omega 6. His diet is not full of omega 6 or nowhere near it so I don't see why it needs to be an issue. Seriously some of you people are extremists but let's be a little realistic here.

I know exactly what you are talking about involving the silly omega 6 craze whatever you want to call it. I don't recommend them at all. Seriously start reading a little better before you start flaming me for anything. I haven't had any hostility towards you so figure out your issue and don't take it out on me.

And just to add, about research, I am trained in professional research and know how to analyze what I read. I don't need anyone telling me otherwise just because I don't decide to quote such an article because "ZOMG HES EATING TEH EGGZZZZ" ... really. Come on. We need to be realistic in situations like this. No one is perfect, no one can be perfect, and suggesting someone to be perfect and not eat any omega 6s (when in reality they should be consumed in moderation as he is doing, at a ratio of about 1:1 when compared to omega 3s)

(EDIT: one addition to this ... you say omega 6's are the cause for obesity? There are a lot of things that can be tied to that and there is no proof as to what the reason is. It can also be contributed to the increase of sugar and grain intake, but really it just comes down to one thing: people are eating more. a lot more. I you can't realistically blame it on omega 6s, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, etc)

PS If I'm just going to get flamed on for giving out realistic advice and suggestions, then I will not participate in this thread anymore.

C'mon muffy you're really helping me out here, don't let people you don't know get to you.

Please no more flaming. There is no need to insult someones intelligence, just a simple "i do not agree with what you said" and an explanation why is sufficient. There is no need to flame someone who is a professional just because you have a different opinion, just as you have done to muffy and both my parents as being MD's.

Well onwards we go!

Grunt, it was a little more than a stab at my intelligence. It was a "you said this" when I absolutely did not.

I don't mind helping you out, but I didn't sign up for scrutiny. That's all.

Muffy, I don't feel that I'm scrutinizing you. I read your comments and saw no mention of water consumption. I just found that odd. The basis for any diet would be to clean up empty calories, starting with sodas and replacing it with water. Arguably, replacing other liquids with water would be more beneficial that any other diet advice, including eating fruits and vegetables. The fact that I didn't see you mention it was something to note.

A little reading on red meat: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_meat
You can google red meat vs white meat for a variety of other reasons why white meat is less detrimental.

I aim for mostly fruits and veggies in my diet, and I try to steer towards chicken or turkey if I'm going to eat meat. I did have a delicious burger this evening, so it's not like I swear off red meat, I'm just very selective when I do have it. I had a filet mignon earlier this month...

The point is that red meat, regardless of whether it's lean or not, is still a health risk. If you can switch out for chicken or turkey, why wouldn't you do that?
