Worlds oldest eel dies!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Humans are analyzing the gene sequence of a variety of “super fish”. Some species of sharks have been looked at for their inability to age same as whales (Greenland sharks ~400 years old). Only a matter of time before we can live “forever”. Similar experiments with lobsters. They are “immortal” creatures, believed to produce an anti aging chemical.

Maximum sizes and ages can be accomplished in the oceans due to the high density of water versus air.

What I said is just off memory. Will get better info in a bit on the subject.

Interesting to know but scary to think about... especially when you consider those in power could be there for a very long time...

Also, honestly never knew any eel could live that long...

a eel who is at least 155 years old dies in Sweden.

In the 1880,s a boy threw an eel in a well,
(Common practice at the time, eels kept the well clean of dead insects)

The eel (named Ale) spent all those years there, until recently when Ale was found dead :rip

Ale is survived by a upstart eel of about 110 years of age.

He outlived.... well pretty much everyone.

Ale was a European eel

Based on reports , thought it happened in 2014... you are 4 years late lol

And the eel age does not seem to have been verified yet

Don't New Zealand long finned eels live like 100+ years? I thought i remembered seeing something about how they dont reach sexual maturity until they're in their 80s. I could be wrong about that. Its been a while since I read it.

Fish with long lifespans aren't so uncommon. There are sturgon that have been around so long they heard cannon fire from the civil war lol

People used to find alligator snapping turtles with musketballs in them, although this doesn't seem to be found much any more.

To this day bowhead whales have been found to have stone spearheads imbedded in their muscle, which indicates how long bowheads live!

Other old fish have included a 75 year old northern pike (captivity),a 220 year old koi,
Several sturgeon over a hundred years old,
A Australian lungfish in its 70s, etc
But it's hard to beat the quahog clam, which can live 800 yrs, perhaps more

Having aged American eels, I am curious how this eel was aged.
