Worm question

If you catch another one, you may want to try turning it upside down (ventral view) and post a photograph, as detailed and in focus as possible. Some leaches have either anterior, or posterior suckers, some have both; still others have a sucker somewhere mid body (ventrally). Ugly thing indeed. Yes, they can hitchhike on anything (plants, rocks, decorations, fish).

T Texas1203 , about how long were the leeches you caught?

Have you added anything else to the tank in the last few months besides the 1 Rabbit snail and the 10 Amano shrimp, including any plants or other items that may have been in a LFS aquarium?

The reason I ask is that sometimes Rabbit snails come with leeches attached to their bodies or inside their shells, especially if they were wild caught or in a tank that had leeches in them. You may want to do an internet search of Rabbit snail leeches, there are a couple good videos with how to deal with them IF your Rabbit snails have them.

I have had the rabbit snails for a long time. One for a year and half, the other 6 mos. They both were in another tank (which has no leeches). I’m pretty sure they came in on the plants I ordered from Dustins Fish Tanks. Everything else was store bought and bleached. All ornaments and decorations were soaked in bleach overnight, then soaked again in dechlorinated water. The driftwood was boiled for two hours.
I am not really sure if these leeches are eating my shrimp. I had 10 shrimp, down to 3. One did pop up on a shrimp eating an algae wafer, but I’m not sure if it was after the wafer or the shrimp. I got that one out and killed it. Then I fed one of the rabbit snails and one popped up around him, but again it almost seemed like it was after the zucchini. Either way, I definitely don’t want an infestation. I have pulled at least 6 out. Today I put in a trap and filled it with brine shrimp. Hopefully it works.

I have noticed that it seems to have two suckers. It will attach to glass with its more rounded end, and search with it’s pointy end. It also seems to have a more fatter section near the pointy end, sort of like how earth worms have that fat collar near their heads. If I catch another one I will try to get more pics of ventral view.
