Worst tank accident?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
mine was my 1st tank when i was 12

i had a piranha in a 2ft tank for some time then thought it best to up grade to a 4 footer

so i got the metal stand put the tank on it and filled needless to say the base cracked after 30 mins of the piranha being put in the tank

the moral to this story use plywood and styro foam on the base

when i got my 180 gal acrylic i did not clean the sponge where the water was going into the sump. about two months after being set up i looked a t my tank and saw that there was no water coming out of the returns and the water level was low. i checked in the stand and saw that my sump had overflowed, left about two inches of water in my stand, and killed my pumps and air pump. 2 days and $400 later i learned my lesson of cleaning the sponge

When i had my first tank when i was 13 years old my friend thought it would be funny to pour bleach in the tank. all of my fish died it was like 2 oscars a channel catfish pleco and jackdempsey i believe. Lets jus say we were no longer friends after that

Filled a 5 gallon aquarium with silt (as a substrate). The water became completely brown and would not settle. Then, when emptying the aquarium, poured most of the silt into the toilet. Parents were not happy.

Mine was a heater malfunctioning and cooking the fish

But a better one was a friend of mine....his girlfriend had a REALLY bad temper. The two of them had an argument....she got ticked and threw a saltshaker at him...missed....hit the fishtank right at the substrate line in the corner of the tank. Put a hole in it the size of your fist. All 55 gallons and fish went onto the floor of a 3rd floor apartment. :nilly:

I had no major accidents but know of people in my hometown , who planned to get a 9'tank upto their appartment on the Third floor.
They arranged an Electronic lift to raise the tank.
The lift broke down, and they had to carry it.
They reached the sidewalk and one guy tripped over it.
The tank was completly wasted.

I dump most of my aquarium related stuff down the tiolet. If you wanna see your parents get real pissed, get gravel in a garbage disposal... :barf:

i've had none, except when i was 7, i pushed my 20 gallon tank off the cabinat.

You can search my somewhat recent post, 100 gallon shower in living room. Needless to say, 8am saturday morning, tank burst, light fell in and shocked the hell out of me in the middle of this all, and left me hours of clean up. Could always be worse though
