well my story was about a white betta my sister won for me at the carnival and at the time i was only 13. i was changing the water in water bowl that it lived in and i place some of the water and the betta in a mug, filled it to the top and left it next to the sink. while i was busy looking away scrubbing the algea off the bowl and turn to look the betta no where in sight. i believe it just got tired of me and hop it was into the sink.

I have had 2 tank disasters.

1) I had bought a 55 gallon of of craigs list for dirt cheap. They guy said it holds water but he hasnt had it running in a while. When i got the tank i filled it on the deck and it leaked whith the glass bowing at least an inch in the middle. I reasealed the tank let it sit for about a week and it held water just fine. I put my Jackdempsey and female green terror in it. The tank was fine for about 3 months then all of the sudden i came home and it was half empty spilling water all over the floor. I rushed to the stor and had to buy anotehr tank. Lukily all of the fish ended up fine.

2) W had a freak fire in the apartment above us. The dryer went up in flames. Lukily i as there and we got the fire department there before it spread from the room. Well it was december and they shut off our power so i was like what do i do with the fish. My friend down teh street took them in for a few days until our power came back. he had a male texas cichlid that started terrorizing my jack dempsey the minute i put him in there. i was like " o great". The next day my friend calls me and says "we have to seperate our fish, Your demspey is going to kill my texas". Huh! yep my dempsey beat the piss out of that texas. We speratesd the fish but unfortunately the texas didn't make it. i felt very bad about the situation but was greatful that he came to the recue and helped me save my fish.

135 gal tank cracked down the middle ...135 gallons of water onto the floor @ 5am as im watching with my jaw open in my underpants...awful start to a day...

I have a few:

I happen to work in the marine lab where my neurobiology class is held. One day we got a big shipment of inverts from North Carolina Biological; during our break between the lecture and laboratory classes, my boss asked me to move the bags of anemones, polychaete worms, sea pansies, and various flatworms into holding tanks. Well, I wasn't really thinking and I put the Planaria into a 2 gallon with saltwater. I came back 2 minutes later to find their shriveled up bodies. I quickly told my boss and we ordered another shipment before even telling my professor they arrived!

Another time I was in the Everglades with my roommate, catching Mayan cichlids for his thesis. At one point on the 6-hour drive back, we decided to stop at a nearby ditch and do a water change for the 35 cichlids. By this time it was dark so we had to check for alligators with spotlights. After we determined it was safe we got a small section of garden hose and I was to start the siphon. I knelt down by the wheel on the pickup and pulled the water out. I guess it was a long day and I didn't know how fast it would go, because I got a lungfull of cichlid water from the bottom of the 100g container. My coughing was interrupted when my roommate manage to step on an old hoplo spine sticking out of the ground. Once he finally fished the 1" spine out, we couldn't find the first aid kit. It turned out to be a looooong night.

I got my first tank when I was 10, a nice lil 20gal. As much as any kid, I wanted to get fish as soon as possible. The next night was a long one...

My other is when

I was doing a water change on the same 20gal tank years later. I left the water running and forgot about it (the sink had no holes to drain overflowing water with. As soon as the ceiling started to leak downstairs, I remembered the water. My mom wasn't too happy

I put to much ich medacine in my 125gal, killed my 2 pictus cats, 2 lmb, and a green sunfish:(.
