Worst tank accident?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've had an air pump die and, because it was at a much lower position than my tank, it drained 90% of the water onto my lounge carpet!
Luckily there was still enough water for the eel to survive.

the worst thats probly happen to me is when i made a homemade sump for the first time it worked fine but i turned it off and went out side a good amount of the water siphoned out from the return vaulve....

..another time sum kid from the neigborhood dropped his bike on my tank an broke it ....witch he denied.....so we fought i was probly 15 at the time...but i was mad

ha ha last week no lie my 3x2x3 135 Gal Cracked down the middle @ 5am and my boyfriend my roomate and i all ran into the hallway where we found it just squirting water in a million directions. it took a good 30 seconds for us to wake up and even grasp what was happening and figure out what to do...nothin much we could do but try and catch some of the water but that didn't really work..so 135 gals pretty much just flooded my house...it was a awful start to a work day.

3 blankets a shop vac and a flooded basement later its all cleaned up...

my first FW tank was a 55 gal with ciclids .. i had it on my bar in my apt... everything was fine for about 2 months .. one day i walked in .. 50 gal of water on my floor . (i live on the 3rd floor) luckly my tank was really dirty so i took the last 5 gal .. put it in a bucket put the fish in the bucket .. went to the store picked up a new tank .. and put the 5 gal of water with the fish .. my old rocks and decor all in the new tank .. topped it off with 50 gal of fresh water and was good to go .. (everything lived but the plec.)

two incidents for me....one I was cleaning out my magnum 350 and decide to clip the ends of the hoses because they were a little stretched out....ended up snapping one of the water flow valves in half...don't know how I did it it just happed got sprayed with about 10 gal. of water before I could get the valve off and attach it to the filter. And of course as I am yelling for help from my fiance she walks in sees water spraying me in the face and just stands there laughing...was quite frustrating...also resently i bough a GATF, alligator gar, and a scomb and had them in my 120 trying to grow them out before my 600 gal plywood build is done and my brother spilled about a third of a fifth of patron into the tank...we were drinking and I have no idea why he was pouring shots on top of the tank but he dropped the bottle and spilled a bunch ....after two emergency 50% water changes guess which fish I lost....yep all three of my new babies...losing the GATF just about killed me...the littel moster was the best fish I have ever owned...and a 250 dollar fish isn't something your common joe can easily replace

Worst by far was when my biggest koi jumped out of the pond, found him 2+ hours later COVERED in dirt he looked like a breaded fish! No movement at ALL I quickly set up 5 airstones took him to the qt tank and spent an hour reviving before I felt a faint 'gill pulse', 2 hours later at 12:00am on a school night he was swimming around and he is still alive today. (this only happened last month)

Another time was when I made my first DIY filter, NOTE TO OTHERS: USE STURDY PLASTIC. The container ended up bending and warping and sprung a huge leak. Water was all over the floor etc etc.

Then today I find out there is a crack in my 29 gallon saltwater tank and just had to drain the whole thing down ugh now I have no clue what to do...:irked:

I bought a 125 glass setup off CL. Good tank, no leaks. This tank was to upgrade my Blk Aro and 4 poly's. They were in a 90 at the time. (still little)

Speed forward to.....Fish in bathtub. Old fish tank broken down, New tank filling wth water. 2 1/2 to 3 hrs into the project at this point.(because new tank was going where the old tank was.) Water almost to the top of the tank and I hear (bad things at this point) crrrreeeaaack, hairline fracture on the bottom corner. The presure from the water weight, caused the bottom of the tank to split in a half circle from the front glass to the side (meaning that a whole corner was baiscally splitting away from the tank.

This was all caused by me not properly securing the tank on transit from the sellers house to mine.:WHOA: (yes I checked for leaks on pickup)

Not good. Water all over my floor until I got enough of the water out to cause to pressure to subside.

I had to resetup the ol 90 again. A project that I thought was almost completed took me another 2 1/2 hours.:hitting:. Laughing is all I could do about it at that point.

Lesson's learned= secure tank better in transit, refill tank before putting in your house, and a must to own a sump pump when owning big tanks.
Good outcome in the longrun. Instead of the 125 I picked up a 180.:headbang2
Just thought I would share.
