worth of wild koi?

Here's some more info regarding wild Koi. It seems that they are plain in color however there were some genetic mutations with white and red colors in wild koi and these were used to breed. http://www.koiacres.com/koi-history.html

The normal colored "koi" are common farmed carp- they aren't koi unless they are colored or bred from koi.

Around the mid-1800's, some of the rice farmers started noticing that some of the carp were mutating. Blotches of red and white were appearing on them. They decided that it would be cool to keep those ones out and breed them. Pretty soon they had developed distinct patterns. It is amazing that these simple rice farmers were selectively breeding the carp to bring out amazing colors and patterns, when at the same time, the only genetic research going on was Gregor Mendel's experiments with pea plants.

The bolded statement is the dawn of koi. If continually bred with koi, they will not revert back to their "natural" color because reds and white are a natural color on them.

The first 3 pictures are Koi- The green are Chagoi, and the grey is soragoi.
The last picture is a common carp.

Run through to the 4:42 mark on this video.. look how vibrant their colors are. Why would we mud pond them if they revert back to their "natural" colors?
