would a stingray be a nice addition?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
but my point here is that im not going to buy an overly large tank, like im already considering, to put a fish in then have to upgrade later, doesnt make any sense. dont get me wrong, id love to have a motoro or three, but im not quite convinced yet. jess?

Unless money is no object, I would stick with a motoro. They don't grow that fast, and you will have plenty of time to upgrade in the future. Retics are a bit less hardy and leos and Itaitubas (P14) are going to cost you an arm and a leg here in the states. If you've never owned rays, start with juvie motoros. It would be better to lose a few hundred dollars worth of fish than a few thousand (if something were to go tragically wrong).

For what it's worth, Nic knows what he's talking about IMO. He is a good source of knowledge on this forum. Take information in from all sources and make your decisions based on what information best suits your situation.

OK then, in that case stick with retics. They're fairly common, they won't get too huge, and they won't cost you your first born. You may have to give up your first two children for true Hystrix.

expensive? i have been thinking of maybe upgrading to a 96x 48 tank to accomodate the rays, that makes it close to 480 gallons by my calculations. a few motoro's in there? idk though, i think a small group of rays would look pretty sweet.

IMO, you could keep three or so motoros in a 96 x 48 for life.

Well Nic, who stays a species is gonna stay a certain size? Well the many people who have kept them throughout adult hood. And just like you do with the Leopoldi v Motoro size.

Histrixs are not often known to exceed 26" though I'm not saying there are no exceptions, of course there will be, but the general max is 26".

Don't really know why your questioning me on why I think a species will be that size the species are known for; when you have just told us leopoldi's get as big as Motoro's..:screwy:

Double standards that is my friend..
I wasn't reccomending a Leopoldi by any means unless he was going to up grade, if you bother actually reading, and in regards to the price, they are pretty common at the moment in the UK and no where near $2000, we are talking low hundreds (pounds) here. So sorry if I seemed misguided, I was reffering to my Location (:

Nitro Fish..with a small ray that setup could work (1 clown knife, 1 tig, 1 arrow and small ray). Not familiar with the common name Polka dot river ray shall have a look for you.

Few hundred pounds for leopoldi and there pretty common? What thats hard to believe. Sure your not talking about motoro prices cause leoplodi are alot more expensive then that.

i think she was referring to the uk. i wouldnt know the prices out there. if i had a tank size big enough for leo's, id get motoro's lol. but that is to be determined tomorrow! once i get replies back from jess. and probably a few other people as well. toodles

UK, USA or Pluto prices are more then that.

all my other big tanks will seem small in comparison to my biggest one..... i mean i can do alot in 180g tanks, and i will be, but a 480......dang! guess that is why im keeping big fish in it, i dont suppose thats the point ;)
