would a stingray be a nice addition?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No it shouldnt... motoro is a pretty agressive ray....this is why i said what i said earlier when i said motoro would be better....

wow Bruce you really think you can get Leo's for as low as that?

hook me up i'll have 10:D

no its 500-600 now...

still hook me up and ship me one kev

even though i would be increasing tank size, im still going to keep the number of arowana to 1, since ill be raising the number of rays. dont arowana grow pretty fast anyway? i think that the rays are almost a done deal now. just gotta do some more refined research before i get them with that book that everyone suggests as the "ray bible".

i just read that in some cases a catfish and a clown knifefish can work as tankmates, but ive also read of the rays getting stressed out by them. may upgrade the number of silver arowana, but not sure, since the rays produce alot of waste. but tank will be 480+ gallons, not sure on height, yet to determine that for number of gallons.

so the height will be about 36". that is a sizable tank...... but from what i understand, so can the motoro's...... i think a large silver arowana can grow out to a big size in a tank like that.....

now what i was actually going to say before i posted that lol, i ordered that book online, call the complete owners guide to freshwater stingrays, by that dr. ross. supposed to be really good. it was only 1 dolla.

p.s. i did not mispell that

Well Nic, who stays a species is gonna stay a certain size? Well the many people who have kept them throughout adult hood. And just like you do with the Leopoldi v Motoro size.
Well Dring, a species usually has a maximum potential size. If it quits growing it's usually due to a compromised environment, ie: a tank that is too small, such as the situation at hand. Eventually both a Leo and a Motoro will outgrow his tank.. They both get appx 32"+ disc long-term.. not including tail.
Histrixs are not often known to exceed 26" though I'm not saying there are no exceptions, of course there will be, but the general max is 26".
Uh.. Not sure if you are familiar with our version of measurement over here, but the Brazilian Histrix you are likely referring to only get 13-14" max, and the true Argentina Histrix even smaller.

Are you referring that the tail is included in length? Because then we might as well start referring to Motoro's eventually getting a maximum of 48".. I think that will be too big for this tank, don't you?
Don't really know why your questioning me on why I think a species will be that size the species are known for; when you have just told us leopoldi's get as big as Motoro's..:screwy:
Maybe because Leopoldis DO get as big as Motoros.. :screwy:
Double standards that is my friend..
Magenta is not.
I wasn't reccomending a Leopoldi by any means unless he was going to up grade, if you bother actually reading, and in regards to the price, they are pretty common at the moment in the UK and no where near $2000, we are talking low hundreds (pounds) here. So sorry if I seemed misguided, I was reffering to my Location (:
Haha wow really.. Your lack of knowing what you are talking about fascinates me right now. Epic Fail. You realize that anyone who has half a brain would buy these all up and ship them oversees for, well, near $2000. They are simply not available for this price.

You completely have no idea what you are talking about.
Nitro Fish..with a small ray that setup could work (1 clown knife, 1 tig, 1 arrow and small ray). Not familiar with the common name Polka dot river ray shall have a look for you.

The Polka Dot River Ray would be referred to as P. Leopoldi.. also known as PDR in some parts of the world. I would imagine,
, if you bother actually reading,
you would of known that.

kthxbye.

Nitro - Get a Motoro.. upgrade or trade later.. Smaller rays are impossible to find or not hardy enough. It will take him a while outgrow the tank, but they can get huge. Watch out for your bioload, you will need to feed a ton to get the ray fed.

Nic - I don't think you should be reccomending that keepers buy something on the sole purpose to sell or give it away when it gets to big, especially to then 'go get another one' and give it away when that gets big. How irresponsible. You can't provide for the animal on a WHOLE - don't get it. Simple as. Just my personal opinion though.

Unlike Pacus, Pangasius and Plecostomus - Public Aquariums and Serious Hobbyists would purchase and properly keep the animal when it outgrows a tank of this size. Not to mention, the hobbyist could easily upgrade to a pond if they enjoyed the pet.

I don't think you should provide advice on things you are unaware of. How irresponsible. You can't provide the information on a WHOLE - don't do it. Simple as. Just my personal opinion though.
