would a stingray be a nice addition?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i see your point miles, and ive taken into consideration the size of tank i will need, and frankly, it may be pushing it, size-wise and pocketbook-wise. the tank would come out to be 720 gallons. an 8x4x3ft tank. i find myself hooked onto getting one of these rays, they are just so fascinating, especially to be seen in a home aquaria environment. people see an arowana in a home aquarium and go wow, but i bet if they saw a full grown ray theyd go holy ****. the size does not sound that big, but the volume makes it huge. all the other tanks in my fish tank room are going to be 180 gallons. seems like they will be dwarfing this tank...... as ive mentioned ive ordered that book for future reference when i do buy the rays, i dont think that much would change between now and then. i was going to stick to motoro's, maybe get marbled ones, as the leo's sound a bit out of range just for a darker color with more spots.

this is what im getting out of all this.

guess you never saw the jdm tanks.... go really hard core on you filtration and add a drip system and you can add as many fish as you want..

im still going to need that kind of filtration. but im not sure if to do 3 silver aro's or just one. i know for sure that ill stick with 3 motoro's in a tank that size. im not risking the clown knife or the tigrinus giving rays stress in this tank though. leaving a small light on the the corner of the tank for the arowana wont stress them will it?

in regards to your post. someone suggested having 3 arowana and 4 motoro in a tank of that size, with the super filtration, and i think it has the space it needs.....

Well Dring, a species usually has a maximum potential size. If it quits growing it's usually due to a compromised environment, ie: a tank that is too small, such as the situation at hand. Eventually both a Leo and a Motoro will outgrow his tank.. They both get appx 32"+ disc long-term.. not including tail.

Uh.. Not sure if you are familiar with our version of measurement over here, but the Brazilian Histrix you are likely referring to only get 13-14" max, and the true Argentina Histrix even smaller.

Are you referring that the tail is included in length? Because then we might as well start referring to Motoro's eventually getting a maximum of 48".. I think that will be too big for this tank, don't you?

Maybe because Leopoldis DO get as big as Motoros.. :screwy:

Magenta is not.

Haha wow really.. Your lack of knowing what you are talking about fascinates me right now. Epic Fail. You realize that anyone who has half a brain would buy these all up and ship them oversees for, well, near $2000. They are simply not available for this price.

You completely have no idea what you are talking about.

The Polka Dot River Ray would be referred to as P. Leopoldi.. also known as PDR in some parts of the world. I would imagine, you would of known that.

kthxbye.

Nitro - Get a Motoro.. upgrade or trade later.. Smaller rays are impossible to find or not hardy enough. It will take him a while outgrow the tank, but they can get huge. Watch out for your bioload, you will need to feed a ton to get the ray fed.

Man, you nailed her! Well.... you know what i mean.. :screwy:

I would have said the same.. But i kinda fell asleep last night so.......

But I must say that a thread like this really pisses me of (Well the person does anyway)..

It is so obvious that she has no clue, what so ever, to what she is talking about.

Is it possible to ban people from certain pats of MFK..? This girl will get my vote for sure...................

now there are others as well Rallysman,Repair, chompers and others have one as well with a thread on it... there really simple

now i just need to grasp my mind around a tank of that size....... its still not clicking.

i got how the drip system works, but theres never instructions....... although, for a tank of that size, i can get a custom built one to come with the tank....

Custome built in the tank? A drip system is just a opening in your sump that drains water from the system as you add new water to the tank. I dont think a tank company can custom build you one, Well lets be real they CANT. All they could do is drill a hole for a bulkhead fitting in your new sump or tank. I think you need to keep doing research get all the facts before you consider a large ray tank.
