www.stingraysource.com says that for a leo or motor my original footprint would work.... but its probably safer to go with a larger one. oh question. can i have some motoro and then a leopoldi in with them? ttfn

Well Nic, who stays a species is gonna stay a certain size? Well the many people who have kept them throughout adult hood. And just like you do with the Leopoldi v Motoro size.

Histrixs are not often known to exceed 26" though I'm not saying there are no exceptions, of course there will be, but the general max is 26".

Don't really know why your questioning me on why I think a species will be that size the species are known for; when you have just told us leopoldi's get as big as Motoro's..

I wasn't reccomending a Leopoldi by any means unless he was going to up grade, if you bother actually reading, and in regards to the price, they are pretty common at the moment in the UK and no where near $2000, we are talking low hundreds (pounds) here. So sorry if I seemed misguided, I was reffering to my Location

Nitro Fish..with a small ray that setup could work (1 clown knife, 1 tig, 1 arrow and small ray). Not familiar with the common name Polka dot river ray shall have a look for you.

funny mike has leopoldi of 32"+ and i have a picture of a motoro same size with a tape measure on its back lol guess im wrong in saying they get the same size...

but my point here is that im not going to buy an overly large tank, like im already considering, to put a fish in then have to upgrade later, doesnt make any sense. dont get me wrong, id love to have a motoro or three, but im not quite convinced yet. jess?

OK then, in that case stick with retics. They're fairly common, they won't get too huge, and they won't cost you your first born. You may have to give up your first two children for true Hystrix.

reason i said i would avoid retics is the competition from a tig... tig will out grow them and could stress them for food..

expensive? i have been thinking of maybe upgrading to a 96x 48 tank to accomodate the rays, that makes it close to 480 gallons by my calculations. a few motoro's in there? idk though, i think a small group of rays would look pretty sweet.

IMO, you could keep three or so motoros in a 96 x 48 for life.

along with the other fish as well?

yes 3 motoro and your other fish would be fine with some good hardcore filtration....

They're not even close to the same, but yes, you could keep them together. I believe turkeyboy85 keeps them together.

Oh, in that case, yes. The big difference between the two will be price. The leo will run you $1200+, the motoro would range from $150-300.

Leos trade over here are around £350-£400.
