would a stingray be a nice addition?

ok. so your guys suggestion is an overflow box, and to "upset" the sand as to suck up waste via syphon? i also have a long syphon hose. mine is 20 feet, right out my bedroom window onto the lawn, or garden bed if my mom asks me to, good for tomatoes :P but a think layer of sand will work just fine, like 1/4 inch to 1 cm?

I had my overflo hooked up to my ehiem 2217 canister and it worked great my 110 had a great cycle and was full of good bio the overflo was full of black stars and bio balls

but what about stirring up the sand to suck up the waste and stuff like thickness? would i want a fine sand or something like play sand (might be kinda rough, but settles fast)?

alot of members just use play sand in thier tanks, its nice and cheap. just make sure you wash it first

well if you are ordering a tank you should order it reef ready..... now seriously as far as cleanin the sand if you use it will take some experimenting on your part.... my im gonna recomend you go bare bottom....

be more than enough

well play sand is a good weight to it. i think if i didnt have that much sand, it wont be much of a problem, and if the rays like it better. but i could just as easily go barebottom. id like it if they flew up in the tank every once in a while :P

mine do that anyways, but i agree barebottem you will be able to see them all the time rather then them being able to hide... but once again... its your choice

i mean if i leave the tank barebottom it isnt going to stress them out is it? ive read of little stressing things that are carried out long term arent good for rays. i would do sand to where it would be manageable, i removed most of the gravel from my tank it was a real pain to clean, and 200 pounds of sand would be a pain to clean, im talkin real thin layer. but theyd still go up on the side of the tank even with sand? i just dont want to stress them out. the amount of sand im talking about they wouldnt be able to fully bury in it, unless they moved all the sand to a certain part.
