sorry theres just so many new factors to add into the whole setup. ok so my setup is looking like this....

3 silver arowana
4 motoro ray (maybe 3 and one leo, depending on price of leo's at that point)
2 itaituba

900 gallons 10x4x3 feet.

about 1 cm of sand.

bruce, im just trying to gather as much information i can, so im well prepared and informed.

im still waiting for that book in the mail, anytime now.

So you have about $10K in disposable cash to make this happen? I sure wish I did! Best of luck to you!

well it looks like the p14 is out then nic? i could do retics and just the motoro's. im not exactly sure what im doing but the place im looking at getting it from does custom built wet/dry and sump filters for their tanks, all holes drilled and etc. so you just have to hook it up. they do overflow filters built into the tank as well.

and i do realize that this setup will cost a bit of money, but what setup like it wouldnt? i think it will be worth the money.

pure p14 not available and will be atleast 2 grand if not more..not out of the question just impossible to get right now and will be alot more than leopoldi... so you got a 900 gallon tank i would sudgest a 300 gallon sump with a good trickle area and alot of submerged media...

thanks nic, ill write that down as reference. isnt a sump the one with the big canister and all the hoses and whatnot? i think i am going to stick with the motoro's for this tank, and a few retics. i thought a leopoldi or a p14 would be cool to have, but they are quite pricey, and ive seen some nice color differences and variation on motoro's. so im looking at 4 motoro's and 2 retics, and i think im going to cut it down to 1 silver arowana, for ease of feeding the rays, and ease of stress on them, plus id rather have only one to take care of than have a problem then have to do something with three, like quarantine etc. plus ill have a jardini in another tank to start with, so ill have a good amount of them, just having two, and with one only, it may reach a larger size.....

so i have two more questions for you nic.

rays first then arowana? (threat of arowana being eaten by a ray)(i dont think the arowana would eat a ray....)

and

arowana like to have some sort of light on at night, if i got a small strip light at one very end of the tank to keep the arowana calm at night, will this pose as a stress problem to the rays in a 10 foot tank? im not thinking it would but rather safe than sorry. i would think theyd just sleep on the other side of the tank, since itd be small i think it would be a low watt bulb.

i would either do retic or motoro.... retic not a agressive ray and motoro will stress and out compete for food...

as far as your sump its a seperate tank... hit them up on a search here or on google...

now to aro and ray... add at same time wont be a problem as long as tank is cycled.... and for night light most times i never used it but if you want one id go for those blue 1watt leds... adds a nice effect to the tank at night...

so what like 6 motoro and one arowana? i think thatd make a dandy setup, id rather have larger rays than a bunch of smaller ones, itd be easier to track feeding. ive heard of fish getting used to the blue lighting at night as well. i wil definitely have to look into that sump filter, i was thinking of having the tank as an "in-wall", or setup behind a wall with a window *made of air) as large as the tank, with a room in the back of it for the filter and a fridge for food and easy tank cleaning and such. ill also have to look into the lighting, it wouldnt have to be very bright, and it could even be on just one side of the tank.

should i be doing water changes or look into a DIY drip system? or does this filter take care of this? (idk if it would have a denitrator or something of that nature on it or not)

thank you for the very valuable information

Drip system... and you can put alot more small rays in there than large rays..... just a thought

i know, but im gonna start with the motoro's, and im thinking about having a smaller tank with retics only in it. i will really have to look into that drip system now then.

how many retics in 180g? not sure if it would be connected to drip system or not. but i suppose if i made a drip system it would be.

but youd say 5 motoro's and a silver aro to complete the tank?
