Would LOVE to keep a bumblebee cichlid but dont know if i have the room

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The store i am going to get him when i get the 400 is called The ultimate aquarium inc. do you think i could keep the bumblebee happy in a community, what would mix with him if i could?

When I say community, I dont mean tropical fish. Im talking about mixing different species of africans. Sorry if you misunderstood me. Some good, docile fish to go with him would be Yellow Labs, Acei, and Perlmutts. There are many others out there, but these are some of the least aggressive mbuna.

Wait so you are saying you are getting a 400? Confused now. If you really get a 400 and really want a bumblebee you could put a ton of different mbuna in there and things would be fine. But honestly if you are spending the money on a 400, you likely will not just want mbuna but if you get a bumblebee you basically make it so you can only really have mbuna.

Haha, Ikevi. Emperor 400, not a 400 gallon tank.

AH filter makes much much more sense.

But yah just remember this fish is an 8 inch fish, males aren't that good looking when full grown, and well it is your choice, but I wouldn't stick too much with them in a 55 gallon tank.

Haha, but nice post on the 400 gallon stocking.:)

So I am going to add 1 more thing comment then I will let it go. So obviously you realize putting this guy with anything other than aggressive, to less aggressive mbuna just wont ever work. (Going by aggressive levels here: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/category.php?cat=2

BUT if you really want to get this fish and other types. I would actually suggest you look on say craigslist and keep your eye out for a 75 gallon tank being sold for cheap. You can actually find them for ~150 bucks fairly often with tank, stand and filter... You just have to be fast on the pick up and be willing to drive ~45 minutes one way. So if you have the space it will be a win win. (And the begining of the multiple tank syndrome.) Plus with a 75 you can get some other good mbuna to put with the bumblebee and have you african knife in the 55 (though don't they sometimes get up to a foot?)

And just so you know this here are adult males:

but again to each there own.

Was just making sure you really knew what the males look like when adults.
