Would this be safe?

Haha yeah. The bichirs are the only reason I'll worry about the barbs at all, right now they're just too small to do anything about them and seem quite content with hikari pellets and krill. We'll see what happens when they get a little larger and I start feeding convict fry to them (*crossing fingers on my convicts breeding soon*). I've been told the barbs are fast & hardy enough to stay safe with bichirs, but we'll see.

I'm only worried about the JD in the future...if he still acts the same way when he's more like 6-7" then I'll probably stop worrying. Like I said, right now all he really does is chase things around the tank. Starts by chasing them off his territory (which...honestly, he's claimed the whole tank:p) and then just keeps chasing for a while as if to prove a point. But he hasn't outright attacked anything yet, hasn't done any damage so far.

Senegal bichirs are fine, i had a 12" one for years, he ate small tetras and such but he was fine with corydoras and rainbows, even kept him with cichlids even a FH and he was absolutely fine, Senegals are very peacefull if you feed them enough and dont tempt them with small tastey fish.
