well buy a better computer ...
i know

sry for getting out of hand earlier guys :(

anyway, no life is worth more than the other so you cant say thats its not a big deal, maybe not with money but if you take in one of gods creatures you cant go put it in a 60g with 2 other large growing, waste producing, messy eater fish. it is irrelevent what other people stock their tanks with, the point is you cant put big fish in a small tank. :)

Dont get another computer get a faster connection

Also you are right. Why follow examples of others who overstock their tanks. Do what you feel is right for the fish. Personally I don't like overstocked tank at all because you don't get much enjoyment out of kepping a species of fish. You can't see how they interact with surroundings and even with you. Also I think Trust has some beautiful fish but I HATE his tank. There is absolutely no purpose of it. Hell if you want to deal with dead fish all the time and water changes 4 times a week at 50% to 75% for 10+ years go ahead. I wouldn't do it at all. It just isn't worth it in the end. Once everything goes bad your going to think wow what the hell was I thinking.

While I wouldnt do it, with a lot of filtrattion and huge water changes you might be able to pull it off for a while.

NO

well actually i had three oscars in a 55 two were 12.5" and one was 9"

this was back in the day though

I will donate my 8" Oscar... he is boring I am more interested in MONSTER FISH and fish that arent as lazy as the oscar is...

Lol, Oscars spend most of their time laying on their sides. They are not very aggressive fish at all. More like food aggressive. Like I said before, if you raise them all together, there is no way that you'll have a problem with aggression in that tank. Just make sure they are all males so they don't form a pair, which is slightly more aggressive than a solo oscar. And like I said before, if a pair of 9" oscars can't kill a 5" jag in a 30 gallon tank, there is no way that they can kill another oscar of the same size in a 60 gallon, they simply aren't built for it. If it were any other large cichlid besides chocolate cichlids and the like, I would say no, but oscars would be fine. ;P (Waits for the flaming to begin)

im not flaming.

but 2 years ago i got a nother oscar and put it in my 20g (both small)
and 2 years later their in a 75g and will not stop fighting , maybe its just me, and i vented. male and female. but before they were fighting they ate, swam, and slept toghether.....wierd

A 48 x 12 x 20 is only 49.87 US Gallons, even less taking into account the glass wall thickness..A standard 55 here is 48 X 15 x 18 which is actually 56.1 US gallons before allowing for wall thickness. This is why we all should probably go on footprint and not Gallons. In a standard 55 gal 15' wide I wouldn't hasitate for 1 oscar.I have seen 2 O's 13'+ in a 55 gal (48 x 15 x 18) before and both fish were as healthy as any I have seen.IMO tank size only makes up for half the equasion.Filtration and the keepers house cleaning routine makes up the rest.
I don't know who's 55g you're measuring but I just measured mine and it's 12.5" wide.

nova your wrong about the foot print of a 55g. it is 48 X 12 X 20
that is not good for one oscar seeing as how a lot of oscars get 13in+.

people cannot put 3 oscars in a 60g. i guess its "posible" but its also possible to cram a 14in. midas in a 10g.

He was only using Renterias measurements, being 12.5 wide makes it 51.9 US gallons. I don't know who is making your tanks in America but you should get on to them about cheating you on your dimensions. Greenterras measurements/calculations are correct, his tank 48x15x18 is 56.1 gallons with 6mm glass (.25") that takes it down to 52.9 gallons. My tank which is a 48x14x20 is 54.8 gallons with glass taken into consideration.

Don't believe me, use this, http://www.angelfish.net/tankvolcalc.php

A 48x15.5x20 is 60.9 US gallons but if you go only 18 high the tank be 17" wide, plenty wide enough for a 12" (or even 13") fish (all with .25" glass).
