Would you consider these fish "rare"?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
*Leichardti Arowana is rare for me, I've only seen 1 for sale in our LFS trade market...20 years ago! :)
*Gars species are banned here so nothing I can do about being super rare LOL (available in black market if you know a right person)
*Platinum can consider rare/super rare for some species :P.

Properly caring for those fish is rare...
*I wonder if any newbies/novices hobbyist would drop few thousand dollars for some rare fishes on impulse buy :P
*Those folks who would buy rare species are already knew about the species and on the hunt for them so they should have more than a proper setup for a fish that cost an arm and a leg to pay :P

There are maybe 3-5 fish on that list i would consider rare, otherwise even platinum gars have been quite common overe here lately...

Seen about 4-6 (2.5'-3') platinum gars for sale, all different stores...

The cuban gar and black bars stand out as maybe less seen but definitely not impossible to get, just need to find an LFS that deals with imports... Which again, over here not hard if you got the cash...

Found a picture of one of the stores that had 2 for sale...

I should add though, a lot of these larger fish seem to suffer from lateral line erosion, which i doubt many buyers know to look out for...

I'd say the rarest are the platinum barramundi, the cuban gar, the AUL, and the intermedia bass. Other than that, the rest are definitely not commonly kept, but you could probably special order them if you wanted without any trouble. Someone on the MFK marketplace probably regularly has those as well. But those four... good luck finding them

Are you talking to my buddy K. Fong? hahaha
Here's his reply to me telling him he's wrong and asking where his LFS is:

"our sure doing a lot of talking to someone who can't admit they are wrong. Get out of your little box and look around. I'd tell you where I got my bass, but your not talking to someone who can't admit they are wrong. Ta ta junior. Dumb ass..."

Lol, I give up on this guy. Still want to know where that shop is though !
