That was not a tangent, that was simply noting one potential reason for such a diverse group to apparently live in such dangerous surroundings. It's called an observation.

Well you can call it what you want but if you have not personally seen some of those members collections and actually looked into what their priorities are then you really have no idea if it is their hobby that keeps them from being able to move to better areas.

I don't know about previous posters, but if I sold every bit of every hobby of mine, it wouldn't get me a move anywhere, not even to a worse place. That is a long term, big picture type of thing. good grief.

It is so sad that society has changed so much.. media has so much to do with our awareness ... i grew up in a place where we did not even lock the doors.. when a knock on the door was always welcomed.. maybe a neighbor borrowing a cup of sugar.. or an egg.. block parties where everyone knew everyone.. now even our best friends call first .. the door is not always open.. we will determine if we want company only after a phone call...... and then we usually set a time too so we know when to precisely expect the person..i like the old days better.. the surprise visits.. now we are so uptight..everything has to be right.... but yes better to be safe then sorry.,... statistics do happen every day to good people..no one should be a victim for being kind.
I'll agree with you Liz on it used to be a better and different world. Where I diverge is that it's not so much that society has changed but that it's been allowed to. With decisions made, consciously or not, individually and as a collective, we have let what is acceptable change. We don't demand that the standards stay high, we reduce ourselves to the lowest common denominator, dropping yet lower with each act against those standards. That is the true shame here.

Of course I would ask. That is yet another observation based on what appears to be over reaction on your part. This again is one possible interpretation of facts, not a definitive answer.
