Completely agree with blackshark on this,there is just no comparison.
I bought my IT to actually calm down my RTG and it worked,nothing to do with status and as for the other 7 smaller ones i have then i will be putting them in the big tank when they are big enough so i wont be making a profit on my dats,i was recently offered £200 for my big dat but i will never sell him unless he gets more aggressive than he already is.i guess if youve never had a stable dat that is out all the time it may be different but i havent so...
Plus they are very personable fish,great to interact with ive never kept convicts and i never will unless i need some useful fish for feeders? Lol
each to there own but dats all the way for me .

personally I'm not fond of either... I like my fish w/ real teeth. or otherwise "oddball" looking or in nature.. the exception to my rule is Oscars.. idk why.. but they grow on ya. I will give the Dats their due on color.. but convicts have alot of personality. like already said.. apples 'n oranges really though... I just could never justify the $$$ I see on Dats.
