Looking for some substrate that is Non-Silica and that will not get caught in the filter (I hear fine sand is a pain)

i believe all sand and gravels have silica in them.....

why are you specifying non silica ??:confused:

silica is the chemical compound silicon dioxide, also known as silica or silox (from the Latin "silex"), is the oxide of silicon, chemical formula SiO2, and has been known for its hardness since the 9th century[1]. Silica is most commonly found in nature as sand or quartz, as well as in the cell walls of diatoms. It is a principal component of most types of glass and substances such as concrete.

I hear silica is bad for some fish.

I called the place in SM and he said just to go in pretty much. So I guess I'll just try and see this weekend. Thanks

Right now that I just seen your Avartar, are you the one that goes to the Aquarium in CC (with the 10,000gl tank)??

Toys R Us has white play sand for something like $2 per bag.

So I can use any type of sand?? As long as I rinse it out and bake it, It should not effect my friends Ray??

You will not find it in an LFS. I am suprised they haven't figured out to carry it yet, and even if they did, you'd be paying like $30-40 a bag.
I have no idea where to find it in LA. I will try to find that place in Riverside. Probably the most I can do for ya!

As long as they have black or white, I'm there:D
I seen one of your pics with the black sand. Looks good bro.
I have a black background with a black canopy and stand, so I'm kind of confused on black or white sand???

Ok, I found a document on my computer of a list I made when I was trying to find the stuff.
Here are the ones listed that do or used to carry it.

I'm going to try to see if they have the white sand.
Kind of new to looking for sand, what exactly am I looking for since all sand has Silica in it?? Is there a certain amount of Silica that would not effect my Ray?
