I'm wondering where you got the idea that sand is going to affect your ray?

I was reading and found that people say that Silica irratates the bottom of the Disk. Am I wrong???????

I've never had any problems with using sand in my ray tanks in the past and I used to breed motorro's.

I'd be more worried about finding smooth small grain sand to prevent any irritation - rather then jagged peices.

I'm definately no expert in terms of what sort of hidden agendas there might be, though. When I bred them I just threw them in kiddie pools in the garage with torpedo sand and let em' do their thing. Never went any further into it.

Dang, I've been worried about what kind of sand and stuff:irked:
Well thanks for the heads up:D

Check out the Torpedo Sand through Marinedepot.com under Fresh Water Products, like I said they're local and while it might be a few bucks more expensive then pool filter sand it's clean and collected from a beach, so you know it's been smoothed out by nature.

So I can use any type of sand?? As long as I rinse it out and bake it, It should not effect my friends Ray??

Yeah, but just a good washing is all you should need.

Silica is the next best thing to Oolic type sand. Oolic sand grains are more round round vs. silica which can be rougher in general. However, I find that most play sands are not as jagged as other silica based sands.

I've had sharks on both types and either worked out just as good as the other.

Oolic sand is much more expensive and is aragonite based (calicium carbonate).

Other than that not much difference.

Thanks guys. This was a lot of help:)
