go to a pool supply store. thats where i got mine. 2 50lb bags cost me a lil over $20

Is the sand white??
Thanks

West I use the Home Depot playsand (clear bag with green and orange print I believe) in all my tanks for years now. I have never had a problem with it and it's very fine but needs to be rinsed well before you use it.

Pool filter sand is a tan and white color, comes fairly cheap and is fairly small grain.

Do you guys have a lot of sand going in to your filters (in my case a RenaX4)??

Personally I use that torpedo sand I linked to you, none of it gets into my filters, period.

I've used pool filter sand in the past and it has to be rinsed THOROUGHLY before you can add it, even then you'll probably have to break down your filters once or twice to get all the particulate out.

The torpedo sand, I just throw a 20 lbs. bag in a 5 gallon bucket and throw a hose in there running full blast, stir it with my hands every few minutes and let the water run until I the water in the bucket is clear.

Pool filter sand is much easier to use than play sand. It rinses much easier and does not get into filter as much. It is larger diameter thus heavier and does not kick up and get sucked up by the filters.

I got my silica sand at Lowes for 6 bucks a bag and it is stark white.

If you have sand, ray and water change will kick up the sand. Thus, sand goes to the filter, especially canister filter with the intake tube sticking down to the bottom :headbang2Dang! 3 days and 4 pages and you still don't know if you should get sand, bro? :grinno: :grinno:
