i like animals more than most ppl lol. in iraq i found a little puppy when we were assulting a town and i feed him and played wit him for 2 days. then when the cowards decided to come out and fight us lol. i was shoot at ppl and blowing stuff up with my tak with a care less in the world about the enemy i was killing, but during the fight i stoped shooting so my puppy could cross the road. i look back now and feel like im a bad person, buut heyy thats war and im like you, I LOVE ANIMALS lol

I just got to this thread, it sounds like my stupid science teacher she barely feeds or cleans out her small little cages! Her list:

male chinchila
Blind brown rabbit
poop covered white rabbit
funny looking hairy rabbit
15" bearded dragon female in 39g tank
4+ foot california king in a 30g tank with a flower pot for a home
6 large goldfish in 10g
20+ guppies in 5g
baby guppies in 10g
2 breeding 3-4 ft corn snakes in 55g!
3+ foot california king in 15"x18" exo terra
4 geckos in poop covered exo terra
2 uromastyx in exo terra with kitchen towl for gravel and bird seed for food.
10 g 12" sand boa nothing but blue sand for decoration or shelter
40g 2 3-5ft blizzard and amelanistic corn snakes
3 1 gs attached together
one dead gecko, with poop everywhere in the sand
1 very cramped millipede
1 crested gecko about 7" poop covered ground
1/2 g some sorta fat toad
smalll exo terra 2 giant dumpy frogs (or whatever there called)
2 hognose snakes in 10g with no water
large chameleon with crappy cage
another 3 1 gallons 3 tarantulas, no water.


She makes me so mad, and never does anything about there condition! she also lets idiot kids take them out at lunch!

My teacher in 7th grade kept blue rams and archer fish together in a 10 gallon, and a betta cup with 4 neon tetras in it.

Ok well, I have a rant. And i will want opinions on what to do about the problem.
TO start off with, I am a freshman that has just now entered high school.
I am taking biology so i can kick off my soon to be career as a herpetologist.
In my Biology class, i notice my teacher has a Painted turtle (not literally painted, but the common name).


But here comes my rant.



Ok, This turtle looks to have a calcium defficiency, has no UV light, No heat lamp, And last of ALL is in a ten gallon. This turtle is maybe 5 inches or so across.
Oh I also Notice the filter is not running
WTF.
So I decide to ask my teacher about the turtle.
Before school i go into the room and sit down and get ready for class. Im in there about ten minutes early just for my reason of speaking with her.
SO only about 4 other students are in the room.

Here is our conversation.

ME- what type of slider is that?
Her-Its Not a red ear, its a painted.
Me-OK I know its not a red ear.
Her-Ok?
Me-Where is its UV Light?
(im guessing she didnt hear me right)
Her- Its light bulbs burnt out a while ago and i havent got it a new one yet.
Me-Ok, Well its in a small tank right now. I can give you a bigger one if you want me to?
Her- NO! I want it to stay small so im keeping it in there. And if it gets bigger I guess it will just stay in there still.
(right now im pissed)
Me-THats really bad you know?
(SHE then ignores me! and talks to another person who i dont believe was even talking to her.)


so right about then, Im steaming mad, and hey its the second day of school and i might want a college recommendation in a few years. SO therefore i just be quiet for ten minutes, and then listen for an hour and a half of her talking.
Class is over and the rest of my day did not go well because i was concerned for the welfare of the poor thing.



So then i tell my sister and her boyfriend about it.

And my sisters boyfriend has had Mrs.Huber(the teacher) before.
He tells me that she told him last year that if he got a B she would have given him the turtle.
And also he told me she has NEVER had a light on it.

Im even more mad .



I just dont know what to do.

Should I email the teacher with my concerns?
Talk to the school counselor and get this resolved?
Or What?

how about lets make a deal !!!!

ask her if you supply the light for the turtle will she use it.....offer to help set it up.....and help keep her animals happy............


if she agrees i will get a light for the turtle and send it to you......


make her a friend, help her out and keep the animals healthy.....you will have a teacher on your side for 4 years

That's a good letter. Hopefully she's wise enough to see it's good advice. You'd be surprised how many science teachers are clueless. I substitute taught part of last year. There were a couple of science rooms with turtles being completely neglected. It's a touchy subject to tell someone that they're not caring for their animals. I would always print off a caresheet from this site (http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/caresheets.htm) and leave it where it was sure to be seen. I haven't been back to see if their care improved or not. Good luck.
