WTF IS GOING WRONG????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
With all those points, the cichlas cannot have died unexpectedly. Are the Alestes tetras still doing well? You mentioned your water parameters are fine. What test kit are you using? Have you tested for pH and hardness levels? Most pH test kits are rather inaccurate.

My theory right now is if they indeed ate all the foods rather quickly, their digestive systems were unable to take in all the food thus leading to organ malfunction. To me, this makes sense.

Man Bruce I am so sad to hear the news bro!

I wish I could help you here. It does sound like any other Cichla, they gorged themselves to death. Since I don't feed Pellets to my small cichla I can't really speak on the condition/negitive effect's that over feeding pellets will have on small cichla or what could of happened to your Tem. Keep your head up man. Sorry again for your loss bro.
Thanks mate i think ill play it safe and keep the last on on frozen untill about 4.5"

The alestes are fine ph around 6.5 i think its a case of over eating

Or just monitor how many pellet's you put in the tank. Feed them less then you normally would. Don't get bummed man we have all been here when it come's to Cichla they don't stop eating. (Some of them) I have seen them going after feeders bigger then them after eating 3 guppies the same size already! Crazy!

sorry for your loss Bruce...if this proves to be the important factor contributing to their deaths please let us all know...and updates on how you make out now with the remainder..could be a big lesson learned when raising these fish...

That really sucks Boggy. I think its a right of passage when keeping these fish as juvs to lose a couple. It sucks even more for you guys in Europe due to the rare import of these guys. Keep your chin up man, losing a few in the beggining makes getting one to full grown that much sweeter. Its what we do

hey boggy sorry for your loss bradda.. but imma have to agree with lupin!!!
reason being... feeding them with massivore delight @ a juvinile stage is a great accomplishment, but these pellets expand 3 times as bigger than other pellets... hikari made it like that to satisfy the fishes hunger.. but i have never seen a pbass eating its heart out and then dying... but possibly in this case of scenario @ juvinile stages and a top of the line staple... it could be heartbreaking:(
