I read this all the time on this site. The simple answer is.. Don't buy then they'll stop selling!!

Well the thing is is its not the hobbyist that keeps them selling fish, its the random consumer that is shopping for sparkplugs and poptarts that does.

And you are right, the conversation does come up a lot and its always the same. Thing will never change unfortunately.

If f the OP gets them to remove the fish i consider that a win. Granted there are much more important issues than this but you can always hope and root for the little guy hoping he'll win. Even if it made the manager think a little at least that's something.

The link below has a pdf, #8 on the list, that describes the Best Management Practices that must be followed in order to maintain a license to sell fish in Florida. It clearly states the health, feeding, and maintenance requirements for the license. The governing body over these statutes is the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Aquaculture. If you open pdf go to page 55.

I have worked at wlamart for quite awhile, although not in the fish department, I actually work in the tle working on cars. Everytime I venture over to the fish tanks, it's like a holocaust in every tank. I remember 1 whole week they didn't have any water agitation in any of the tanks; the fish were only sitting in still water! The CAEs were swimming near the top gasping for breath!

But this is the closet post I read that represents the truth:

They're not all that way, but I've seen my share around town between Walmart and other local stores. i think the main problem is that they don't have anyone working in the department except when someone wants a fish, so they don't even know what's going on half the time. Who knows if the fish even get fed while there!

Especially given the economy, most walmarts are severely cutting their workers' hours. It's like pulling teethe getting 2 technicians in the garage at all times, let alone other departments. Most times we are operating with a skeleton crew.

It can change WE can help change it, keep complaining keep pointing out the cruelty if the words " Animal cruelty" and "authorities" keeps coming up to the managers they will do something you just have to ride them..go out of your way to tell them how horrible it is! ask for a manager EVERY time they will clean it up or stop selling them all together.

Petsmart stopped selling pacu....i wrote pages and pages of messages to them, in every survey and every time i came in the store I would talk to the managers about not selling fish that get so ridiculously large...and you know what? they stopped ordering them!!

Im not saying it was just me doing this..im sure there people were doing it as well and they got tired of taking back large fish no one wanted...but to stop it you have to complain and complain and never let them have a moment to think you gave up..Walmart has shut down fish departments when they received to many complaints.

don't give up....

Man, your walmart is rough, my buddy took up care at the one near me a few years back, and it has been great since. He doesn't order any of the larger fish anymore, just guppies, tetras, goldfish, etc.

news flash: Walmart was headed in the same direction even when San Walton was around. I always have to deal with angry customers who seem to think the late Mr Walton's death spelled an end for customer service in stores. One man wasn't going to change the attitudes of millions of underpaid employees.

If enough average hobbyists ALSO stops buying sparkplugs, poptarts...anything...from Wal Mart...then Wal Mart will feel the impact.

Matt
