Last year (2024) when hurricane milton came to Tampa it caused serious damage to many farms that are central to the fishkeeping culture. One of the farms that didn't manage to recover was Max's Cichlids. A well known treasure trove of rare and pure type-locality selections, Max's farm was central to the niche collectors of many Central American cichlids. I was fortunate to be one of the people that was invited to rescue his fish when things shut down. Out of the many species I rescued, one of my favorites is his nicaraguensis.
There werent any mature adults left, so he gave me about 100 fry. Out of those approximate 100 2 of them came out with the xanthic mutation and I will now be line-breeding them to secure this trait further.
Has anyone else ever seen this mutation in Moga before?
