Crocodile Toothpick Fish
Indostomus crocodilus
Size: 1.25"
pH: 5.5-7.0
Tank size: 10G/1 small group
Country of origin: Thailand, Malaysia
Diet: Live and frozen foods
Temperament: Very peaceful and fragile. Easily outcompeted
Temperature: 75-80° F
Description
Indostomus crocodilus, not to be confused with the aforementioned Indostomus paradoxus, is an unusual fish that is, contrary to what I previously believed, less closely related to seahorses, pipefish, and sticklebacks, and instead closer to swamp eels and spiny eels. These fish are very delicate and are best kept in a species tank. Though they do not need to be kept in groups, it is most likely for the better, as due to the fragile nature of this fish, it's entirely possible that one or two will perish prematurely. These fish, for one, are rather weak swimmers, and for two, could easily be sucked up by the average HOB, and therefore require special filtration. Baby brine shrimp and Daphnia make excellent foods.
