I have no pics because these fish are not in yet, I also cant find a single thing about them.. This is a pic of the yellow tails, i think, from an old thread.. I remember this pic originally coming from when one of the vendors where selling them, either aquascape or SA.. Also I might have read somewhere that they are an unidentified species

Does anyone own these yellow tails, or will I have to be the first lol

yes ive owned a few, those are yellow tailed tats.

i believe that shot was from an aquarium in georgia.

So I wonder what John from eczs has, anyways did u try gettin the yellows off live? Thats my main concern after gettin these guys. I have actually had better success rate gettin scombs off live than my red tailed tat in the past.. Oh and have you noticed any behavioral differences between the red and yellow?

Oh and there was a pic a while ago from the vendors, i guess its not this one..

I think it's a location thing. Look at Motoro rays...how many are there? Blue ring, rose, puruvian, colombian, marbled........list goes on. Bottom line they are all Motoros and all grow roughly the same. These things are no different......Its a Tat in a different outfit. Get them and track growth rate and watch behavior within the shoal. I'm guessing after 6 months to a year you will agree as well that they are Tats.

I think with a shoal you'll have an easier time getting them off live. NO payara is impossible to get off live. It's just a combination of things.

Trev- is that the aquarium that had trouble keeping them alive?

I would agree but sometimes collection points and coloration are enough to justify a new species. Take for instance ternetzi's and nattereri. I think if I read correctly, someone argued that the yellow tails are an unidentified species because of their origin, and that could be valid. They sure do just look like tats with faded fins.

Yellow tails have been around for a while. This discussion has come up many times.

If this is indeed a new species then best add 2 new species to the list of payara.

KRS had a silver varient. That would be a new species too.

If it eats like a tat, acts like a tat, grows like a tat, and looks like a tat..............

If someone could get one grown up then maybe we'de know a little more.......But I have yet to see a full grown Tat over here.

Best bet is to wait till John gets in some that are over a foot. The guy gets some monsters from time to time.

i think so. someone said they were "unstable"

it's possible, easier if there are other preds that accepts non-live in the tank to show them the way

no i didnt have them long enough to get them off live. they were tat varients, so they acted the same as a tat.

im curious to see what john has too.
