Its not a scomb for sure. Its either an armatus or tat. I'm leaning more towards tat because the caudal fin doesnt seem to be that orange.

Def. not Armatus.

Pretty sure if you're paying Scomb money then you'll get a Scomb.

I wouldn't pay too close of attention to thier pics....they aren't of the ACTUAL fish for sale in most cases.

Payara are very difficult to ship...... I have come to expect small mortality rate from someone that knows what they are doing. And 100% from someone that doesn't.

If you are going to order some I highly recommend having a QT tank set up allready and meds on hand. High temp and salt. EVERY payara I've ever had shipped to me has come in poor shape.

I would highly recommend getting them from John. That way you are assured they will be I.D.'d properly and he has a lot of experience in shipping them, and also comes through on the garentee part of it......not only that they arive alive but that they eat. I had 2/5 die and he made more than good on it.

The fish in that pic is a tat, but as said earlier, the pics on the websites are usually not the fish that's for sale.

Aquascape, eczs, and SA are all in driving distance for me in nj so I wont be getting anything shipped.. I just want to make sure Im buying a yellow tail and not a scomb.. Would it be harder to tell apart small yellows, maybe i should just get reds so I dont end up w/ a scomb

ur best bet is to get a pic somehow.

I have never dealt with Aquascape. I have dealt with John and talked with G.

It may be hard to tell the difference between a Scomb and Yellowtail from a single pic. Seeing them in person comparing 1 to another is TOTALLY different. You will see differences plain as day. Compare the yellows to reds. I doubt you will get a mis IDed fish from John or G. They both know their Payara very well.

I would highly recommend getting a shoal rather than 1 or 2.
