As some of you may know I've started a small resale/distribution business. I got a guy with 8" captive breed nurse sharks at an amazing price. I've been going back and forth if I should pick one or a couple up or not. Obviously a huge pond/pool is need to keep a nurse shark for life. I really do not plan on keeping them if I bring some in, but if they don't sell I'm SOL. I will not sell them to anyone that can not provide a proper home for life and they must prove they can. I would be able to provide a 10,000 gallon pool if worse came to worse by the time the shark out grew an aquarium. Do you guys think a 300 gallon rubbermaid tout will be enough to house a 8" nurse shark until I find a buyer? If the 300 gallon would work I would build a 600 gallon if needed until I can proved the 10,000 gallon.

If it gets to large you could probably check with a local Aquarium to see if they take donations.

Aquariums almost NEVER accept sharks, and in particular nurse sharks. 10,000 gallons won't be enough to house it for life. Lastly, 8" is on the VERY small size for a nurse pup. Average size at birth is 10"+.

Nurse sharks live a long time, and aquariums only need so many of them...there's only so many aquariums around too. My LFS had to ship their big one half way across Canada to find it a home...

That must have been a huge pain. I do remember reading they do not fully mature for 18-20 years. I do have the shed aquirum by me, but I do not know if they would take the shark if needed. I'd much rather not have to deal with that and find people who would want one and would be able to provide an appriote home. Even if I could provide the appriote home myself, I do not know if I would really want a 10ft shark. I could only imagine what would happen if a dog or a child fell in. That could be one huge law suit waiting to happen. Luckly I'll be graduating law school in may....

Anyways, I would really only be able to provide a 300 gallon right now to hold them for others. Once I move into my house next year I could then have a 600 or large pool if needed for the time being.

Definately pass.

Shedd won't take them...I've worked there...no donations, especially sharks.

As someone has already stated, 10,000gal is not near big enough, for an adult...let alone numerous specimens, which you're talking about getting.

Who do you, read about, heard about, etc. that has their own private 10,000gal fish tank, that you could sell these sharks to? Ummm...no one. You're going to end up with numerous sharks, that you can't care for, provide proper habitat for and they'll end up getting pushed aside, left to die.

Just from reading your "I could only imagine what would happen if a dog or a child fell in. That could be one huge law suit waiting to happen. Luckly I'll be graduating law school in may....", you haven't the slightest idea about the species.

Definately pass.

There is no need to pump Nurse sharks into the pet trade. Anyone with a tank big enough will be able to get their own if they want one. Most people who play at that level aren't looking for nurse sharks anyway.
