I will cold hardily agree to disagree with you. I know you are 100% wrong on this but that is cool with me, lets get back to the OP thread

That's 100% Channel. That's typically all that pay-lakes stock around here, aside from Shovelheads and Blues. I have caught many a' specimen that resemble yours. No need to be so butthurt about being wrong.

First off, everyone please cool it. We don't want the moderators to shut down this thread and possibly even bring down the ban hammer, now do we? :chillpill:

Now I know that many of you want a positive I.D. on a previously mentioned catfish that was caught by mike_sema, so I'll add in my two cents based on what I learned in Ichthyology class while identifying dozens of channel catfish and flathead catfish of various sizes. I learned to completely disregard patterns on most fish as they vary greatly from location to location, so I'm going to disregard the odd pattern of the catfish in question. Now two things jumped out at me upon looking at this picture that significantly influenced me:

  1. The catfish has an overbite. Channel catfish typically have an overbite rather than the pronounced underbite that flathead catfish have (hence their other name, shovelhead catfish).
  2. The catfish has a fairly forked tail. Channel catfish typically have a very deeply forked tail, but flathead catfish always have a very squared tail.
With this being said, I personally believe that the catfish in question is indeed a channel catfish, but I do not rule out the possibility of it being some sort of hybrid due to the known existence of said hybrids and the lack of photographs of those hybrids. I do not believe that any further discussion of the ID of said catfish is necessary in order to avoid further confrontations. Now can we get back to the intended purpose of this thread and discuss our best catches of 2010? :grinno:

With that being said, I would have to say that my best catch of 2010 was a 28" snook that I caught off of the pier on Sanibel Island in Florida during Thanksgiving Break; I promptly photographed and released the fish since it was out of season. I didn't have any luck with freshwater fish this year, so getting that snook really made my year as far as fishing goes. :D I'll post pictures if and when I get the chance.

Not my best but close enough.
Didnt measure, only had it out for about 30sec, then straight back in.
50lb sunline to an Anthrax stopped this fish quick.
Was having a bad day, and just wanted to do some 'knock em down, and drag em out' sort of fishing.

Whoa, awesome arowana!

Is it a jardini or a leichardti? I noticed that you were in Queensland, and both species occur there, so I couldn't make a good ID based on that.

Man, you can catch arows in Austaralia? F'en awesome

:iagree:

And on the catfish thing, who cares just let it go either way its still just a stupid catfish!!

very nice catfish regardless of species for sure. I bass fish during the day when I am out, but always catfish every time I go fishing whether it be day or night! Love those cats, and great eating.

This thread started off cool and went quickly downhill on the catfish b.s., take your arguments with each other to private messaging. I'm so annoyed from reading the juvenile bickering in the thread that I don't wanna even bother posting pics of my catches anymore.
