Your biggest mistake

I used to have a fascination with bettas.... My mistakes all come from PetCo
1) yes betta are schooling fish (out 2 males)
2) yes tiger barbs can live in you community tank (out 1 male betta 2 out of 3 tiger barbs)
3) yes gouramis can go with your betta (out 1 betta 1 gourami)
4) yes gouramis are schooling fish (out 2 of 4 gouramis)

(though i actually did have 3 gouramis live together for a very long time in my 20g comm tank)

So this is the info that petco gave you? or what you think is right I don't understand your wording.

I have three tiger barbs in my G/Fs tank and they cohab great with the other fish.
I also have in the same tank two gouramis in the same community with the tigerbabs.

I lost one gourami but that was due to it not aclimating well.
 
My brother and I got really drunk one night and decided to change the beta water with bottled water right out of the fridge.....needless to say it didn't end to well for the betta.
 
used to keep my surfboards down the side of my tank, took one of the boards out went surfing and when i got back the tamk was dry !
had managed to hook the airline with the fins on my board which syphened a 100gal tank onto my front room floor in arround 8 hours !
needless to say all my lines have non return valves on them now !!
was a costly mistake ! lost fish + new carpet etc all worked out over a thousand pounds :(
 
my biggest mistake was during a tank transfer. I placed my fish in a plastic trash can, hooked up a canister filter and let run overnight and into the next day.

My mistake was not running the air pump and loosely placing the lid on the trash can. I suppose there was not enough oxygenation of the tank. Which caused me to lose several African cichlids including a couple nice peacocks.

chalk it up to experience.!!
 
i did a 90% WC with no de-chlor. lost my cat tonight. :(
 
i forgot to wash out my carbon thing for the ac 110 so my water turned black and i freaked and didnt know that it would clear up, so i was like "s#!t i gotta get this water out" so i did and it didnt end well.
