Yeah, they hate being cornered.
I have to generally drain halfway as well, put in a divider, and slowly make them go in a net while pushing slowly from behind. Even then, only like 1/3 is in the net and the tails go crazy. Then their scales and hooks get stuck on the net. It's a nightmare.

Tilted the filter while doing a water change...So basically what happened was th filter kept pumping and the water keep being spilled out the back...I later came home to a half empty african cichlid tank...55 gallons...We had to replace the entire carpet in the basement...
Last week, I put my 5 White clouds in a bucket while I went to school. The only fish that doesnt jump is a dead fish.

So i bought 2 more. The next night, I went to net out some food. Next morning, I noticed there were 4. I was SOO pissed. So I bought a replacement, brought it home thru driving snow in a cooler. Later I noticed an almost silver Minnows in the bottom. When I netted the food, I netted out the small White Cloud. Then I put the net in the water pitcher that I use to add new water. Thank gosh he jumped out of the net into the drop of water at the bottom! Somehow, after 22 hours in less that enough water to cover him, Pipsqueak pulled thru. So if you have small fish, CHECK YOUR NETS!!

My biggest mistake was not making myself aware of the bloat concerns with my 12 Haitiensis and all 12 died within 2-3 days 
I'm still sorting out my mistakes to find out the biggest one. However, I'm sure my wife's biggest mistake was asking me to get a fish tank for the kids!
