I actually have a really nice petsmart near me. No dead fish, clean tanks, but the bright red gravel in half the tanks....

Same here as far as clean healthy tanks are concerned the petsmart here has beautiful fish. Ive only seen the huge sacramento/san jose aquarium shops superior in care and selection

my first sump just everything went wrong..it over flowed a couple of times and it wasnt like timed correctly if you no what i mean but im getting used to it..

My biggest mistake was purchasing a leiarius pictus from an aquabid auction. I paid $75 (after shipping) and received a leiarius marmoratus. Heck, if I wanted a marmoratus, I could have picked it up from the lfs for $35. Of course, I could never get a hold of the seller again. From now on, I only deal with people who have all good feedback.

Last week, I put my 5 White clouds in a bucket while I went to school. The only fish that doesnt jump is a dead fish.
- 2 minnows.
So i bought 2 more. The next night, I went to net out some food. Next morning, I noticed there were 4. I was SOO pissed. So I bought a replacement, brought it home thru driving snow in a cooler. Later I noticed an almost silver Minnows in the bottom. When I netted the food, I netted out the small White Cloud. Then I put the net in the water pitcher that I use to add new water. Thank gosh he jumped out of the net into the drop of water at the bottom! Somehow, after 22 hours in less that enough water to cover him, Pipsqueak pulled thru. So if you have small fish, CHECK YOUR NETS!!

well i learned today that they werent even fry...they were mosquito larvae in my freakin tank. useless loss of 2 great fish. needless to say, i wasnt too happy to find THIS out...

I had a sponge at the end of my sump for a while. One time when I was refilling the tank, and the sump started filling up again, I noticed a stream of water shooting through the stand. The sponge had gotten turned so it directed the water out of the sump lol. Water everywhere...it sucked.

I work for a demolition company and look for crap people leave behind before I crush the house into the ground. One thing I found and kept (amongst far too much other crap) was a rather tall and slender "tank" that held around 25 gal. I got a tube of silicone to seal up the edges just in case. After curing for a couple days I put the it on my porch and filled it up with a hose to make sure it would hold water fine. My first clue this was not a real fish tank was when the sides bowed out. It held and I left. About an hour later I heard a TREMENDOUS "CRUNCHWOOOOOOOOOSH" coming from the porch. Luckily, no fish were present for the event and it took place outside. Lesson learned: Only BUY fish tanks from FISH stores.

My biggest mistake so far was putting a CO2 system in the tank and not timing it. I nearly gased all my fish!

Mine so far is pretty small but is a two step mistake.
Step1: I bought 2 rainbow sharks. They proceeded to do the natural thing and beat the crap out of each other. I separated them and the one I moved adjusted quickly and seemed happy in his new tank but....
Step2: After separating them the one remaining in the original tank wouldn't come out of the hiding place they were fighting over, at all. I removed that hiding place thinking he'd freak out for a second then realize he was alone and settle for one of the other hiding spots. I left for a bit and when I returned he was beneath the tank and completely dry.... I tried to save him but it was too late.
