Your biggest mistake

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i hate to admit it but iv just done it!!!!
the water i was filling up with after the water change was apparentrly too cold (despite when everything was frozen and snowing the water was fine)
everything went belly up in seconds!! luckily i fill my 10g with warm from the tap. and by chance i put a plec that was just about to go in there, and he was fine....then i saw my eel who had been laying on the top of the tank for about 5mins coz i thought he was dead and tryin to rescue ones that wernt, lifted his head.
si all my fish apart from 2 sevs a venustus and a female FH are in a 10g until the other warms up....which it already has coz iv been topping it off with hot water.
my male FH isnt too happy about havin his house invaded!!! VERY STROPPY FH!!!

I was helping a friend do his first WC on his tank and forgot to mention that the water should be the same temp as the tank water. It took me a few minutes to figure out what was going wrong so fast and felt like an idiot. There was no fish lost but I bet the water went up 30 degrees the down 30 degrees in about 10 minutes (tough convicts).

my biggest mistake was under estimating what my 7 month old daughter could do at the time lol. While we wernt looking she threw in a battery into one of the tanks and we didnt noticed for 2 days and by then it exploded but thankgod we were able to save the Jd.

ill just highlight a few:

using a cheap heater on my reef tank, that broke. boiled my blackcap basslet, purple tip anemone and three cleaner shrimp.

emptied my whole tank to clean it when i was a kid and didnt understand the cycling process. killed all the bioload and then killed years old discus and angels, plecos, and a whole school of pristella tetras. devastating.

when i worked at an lfs, we had to use buckets of water for wc purposes. many times myself and others forgot and flooded the store and sometimes the one next door. everyone had it happen to them, it was a rite of passage.

I have an idiot friend who liked to throw bugs and spiders to his marble goby and red ear slider turtles. I showed up for poker one night and they were trying to catch a black widow to throw in the tank. The turtle bit the spider on the abdomen and the spider bit back. In the morning the 3 inch turtle swelled up to a softball. Morons!

I flooded a saltwater tank on the 12 story of an office building in downtown Orlando.
Needles to say, I'm no longer cleaning that companies tank. lol
S&^# happens. I hated cleaning that tank anyways. Flooding that tank was a means to an end I suppose. lol

Hi Folks.

Here I go:

When I was 13 I had this beautyful 80 lt tank (actually my firs tank) and I had very succesfully kept some mollies, guppies, and some other quite nice fish for a 13 year old boy. Then I bought this little fish that I had hear was "kind of agressive" so I put this newly in the maternity inside the tank. A couple of weeks later I thought the little one had gotten accostum to the other fish presence and decided to free him from his cage. After watching him for 10 min nothing happened and decided everything would be just fine and left to school.

When at school I was talking to a friend of mine about my fish: "Gee man this morning I took the OSCAR out of the maternity, I guess everything is going to be OK he was pretty calmed..." He answered laughing "that is what you think, you just have to wait and you'll see.....".

When I came back from school I went to see my fish....My buddy was right... :eek:half of my fish where missing (even my favorite beautyful Betta) and the Oscar was fat as a pig......

my biggest mistake was feeding the wrong food sold to me by an inexperienced fish shop owner when iw as living in singapore. Killed my 12" or bigger datnoid...
