I once accidentally put poly doll stuffing in my hob filter instead of filter floss. Not sure what they treat that stuff with but it killed all my fish except my green severum...but the sev ended up with a nasty case of HITH. It healed but the sev was left with a big crater where the HITH was. Stoopid :(

Letting my Grandma take care of my fish when i went on vacation in high school. My grandma got in a grumpy rage and disconected my heater. When she was done she took it out and reconnected it.

She picked me up from the airport, all she told me was my heater was broken:(

When i walked up to the tank the water was literally boiling. I lost A breeding Pair of Jack Dempseys and a 6" Gold Saum. I have no shame in saying I cried like a little girl.

not checking the temp every day to check if the heater works still..
heater broke. the fish did fine, except for a sudden outbreak in ich, which ended up killing about 5 fish

I nearly boiled (as in the water was nearly boiling) a tank full of high quality goldfish. I saw them... boiling, and then suddenly all at once, as if coordonated, everyone on of them stopped in mid stride, and turned belly up floating to the top. In addition I caused a big spill of this hot water spanning several square meters.

I turned the tap off, but the tap handle was weird and could go farther on the hot water side than the cold. So I turned off the cold, and left the smallest dribble of hot water. Over 20 minutes... that a lot of hot water.

Ouch...I hate when that happens...

I got a free 55 w/ stand but nothing else so I added decor and filters (including an eheim canister, the star of this story) and started the fishless cycle with no top on the tank. Suctioned the outflow spray bar to the back of the tank facing the front. The glass was kind of rough (old tank) so the suction cups didn't stick through the whole night. Came undone, spray bar floated up, fountain spraying all over the livingroom floor until it drained enough that the canister ran dry. My dad came down stairs in the morning to about 40 gallons of water on the floor...the hardwood floor in that area is still ever so slightly warped...

You guys will like this one,

I was cleaning out my 225g when I figured that while I had my python syphon drain the 225, I could use my other syphon and a 5g bucket to clean my 55g Frontosa tank, I had about 5 adult and 10 juv. frons in the tank. I had the syphon hanging out the window so the water would just fall onto the ground. Well after enough water was drained, I went to fill up the 5g bucket and poured it into the tank.
About half hour later my fish were all dead...every one of them. Talked to my mom later that night(im only 17 =D) telling her about my fish, she then told me she used a bleach mixture in it earlier, and I wasn't thinking and didnt rinse it out before-hand.

Long story short. I bleached my fish =/

My heater was set just a little low, my husband and I discussed it, and then we BOTH turned it up, without talking to the other. Left for 2 days, came home to a tank with 10 dead baby Angels, a dead rubberlipped pleco, 3 live and happy Corys, and 2 dying Angels. I quickly scooped the survivors and moved them to my uncycled tank, and they all lived! Tank was over 90. And no ich. That really surprised me.

Ich will hardly survive at that temperature.
