Gave my brother a 30 gallon tank and a 55 gallon tank to start with and after a botched effort (he refused to listen to me, although he started this account which I have hijacked) have been given one clown loach and a red tailed shark to care for (the survivors). In the end it was a good excuse to pull the 65 gallon out of the basement... to which the wife could not object.

The stupidest thing I ever did was adding like 7 fish to a new tank. The next morning about 5 were alive. About a week later I only had three. I did research and found out that you shouldn't do that. real smart huh.
many may not consider this really stupid but I do....when I first started I put small fish with an oscar...needless to say eventually all I had was an oscar.
Lemme say I work at a Petsmart here in Austin, and we totally rock. We don't have to sell customers fish to meet a quota--and we keep all of our tanks clean, and parasite clear. It depends on what store you go to apparently, because I've seen some awful petsmarts...

Needless to say, it didn't stay a community for long after the male salvini went on its killing spree! Looked up some info on them and found out how aggressive they can be.
Now I research EVERYTHING before I buy, I'm not going to make that mistake again.

I don't understand how fish die from turning off the filter or pump ocernite
