I guess we should just ignore the fact that Galton 'created' the Eugenics movement? ( He was English, a cousin of Darwin) or that Eugenics was hugely popular in the USA at the time, Or ( especially) that we are NOT talking about people here, but FISH!

I guess we should also ignore that fact that deliberately breeding for a known defect, as Lincoln suggests we should do, just like Dr Mengele , is unethical in any educated circle? But then, it is clear that Lincoln has no idea about ethics in animal husbandry, so why bother?
:)

the thing is its a birth defect and we should not breed from rays with a genetic defects

batman rays wouldn't live long in the wild or we would see a lot more wild caught Batman's

if you line breed batman to batman how far and how deformed would you let it go before you say enough is enough

if all the pups come out like some kind of wobbling blob what will you do try to keep them alive or cull them

its not right to play god

Easy people, lets relax some please...

rays are illegal in cali.... whats your point?

Zep - To answer your question some rays are illegal in Cali but not all. Example being salt water and or Atlantic rays. Also depending on the situation people can actually have freshwater rays. The godfather of rays, Dr. Richard Ross himself is from Cali.

Also discussing a topic is a very different thing than claiming to own something. Example being people start topics all the time on snakeheads and pima, but that doesnt mean they own them...

Yawns... I guess some people not just want to control but to set the standards of what constitutes a defect. I'm sure they have huge international bodies of scientist backing their educated claims.

Our proud history of animal/fish has never been focus on health, rather on creating animals to suit our taste and attributes that we desire in pets. Almost all husbandry resulting in shorter lived and less healthy dogs, farm animals that put on weight unhealthily fast for the meat market, or fish for aquariums that put beauty over the fishes need to blend into it's surrounds.

As far as I know, batman rays can survive just as well in an aquarium setting as an ordinary ray, do not threaten any ray in the wild nor are they even capable of passing down their physical traits. In fact from the perspective of health, hybrid rays are healthier and breed easier too.

Some people will find any reason just to justify a big picture with pieces that just don't fit. Especially arrogant people who think that what is unacceptable to them can not be beautiful or an improvement to others. Such fanaticism does not need any reason.

yep flowerhorns cant stand them and parrot fish hate them to just a fancy tropical gold fish

but this is about batman rays so what have flowerhorns got to do with it

flowerhorns/parrot fish are man made fish that were made in a test tube not like a birth defect with the batman rays

i still think that the early batmans that were on the market were trimmed to look more batman shape

we have seen the bit at the front of the disk missing in a good few pups now but how many have we seen with the back parts missing

even if you bred batman to batgirl the pups maybe normal but all you maybe doing is passing on the defective gene to latter breeding stock

I am not understanding your point about the back parts missing? Care to elaborate?

The Batman and Batgirl breeding has never been done before so nobody knows the answer, this is why its being suggested to try at least once to see the results.
