Not sure it helps you much but in keeping with the expensive theme, I saw some last week in the uk for £125 for a one inch or so fish, they had about 20. First time I've ever seen them for sale over here

i've been reading around and it seems tigers are more of a carniverous pleco? does this mean they're not a good speacie to help "keep the glass clean"?? they're definately a great looking pleco.

harty.

This is true for both Zebras and Tigers. They both come from a family of plecos called Hypancistrus, which are primarily meat eating, carniverous plecos. This does not mean they will not occasionally eat algee, but they would be happier with some sinking carnivor tablets. and as far as keeping the tank clean, that would be a job for a common pleco, not quite as pretty but keeps the algee off the glass.

they would do perfectly fine, maybe a few little dominance spats, if they are both males. but i would go for it, assuming you have a big enough tank.

or did you mean a meat eating and an algee eating...? cause im talking about a zebra and a tiger, either way both mixes woud probably work, however, common plecos can get as big as 3 feet, while hypancitrus plecos get about 5 to 6" max

Never had any of my Hypans eat algea. Well, I assume not by the layer of the green stuff growing on everything lol. For "algae eating" you will be looking at Ancistrus species or maybe Chaetostoma species (although these often need cooler water to thrive) but there is no pleco that will do the work for you as they all need their own diet too. Best thing for algae is finding the route cause... too much light, not enough water changes etc. Algea scrapers are your friend :)

yes i was speaking along the lines of a common and a tiger together. thanks again for all the help guys. there is the size issue that was mentioned with the commons.. any other algae/ herbivorous species which stay relatively small which would be compatible with a tiger?? sorry for so many questions lol.

harty.

Loads of smaller species, some Peckoltia, small Panaques (if your cool with having driftwood), Ancistrus are probably your best bet, particularly the latter for what you want.

Not quite. Common plecos, Pterygoplichthys pardalis, only attain sizes around or less than 2'. Some Hypans can get much larger than others. Zebras usually only attain a size of less than 4", while L066 can attain over 6".
