Zennzzo'z 4th Managuensis Spawn

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So, I get up this AM to get my Coffee, quite early, (3:30AM) only the hear some serious popping at the surface of the water...I cut on the light and catch my Male with a 2" fry in his mouth...He let it go, and it swam off freaked out, but alive...

I was wondering what the rukas was all about and I seen the eggs were gone!...only ones left, were the white, non-fertile ones...

Upon further inspection, to my surprise I have got WIGGLERS!!...
Yup, barely over 2 days from spawn and sure enough I got wigglers!!:headbang2

as promised...
right around 0:27, PoP's "helps" one of the wigglers back to the fold...

I guess MoM and DaD decided that "under the foam" was too much in the open, so they found a better place to put the wigglers...

In the mouth of a 1.5" threaded bulkhead fitting, that is plugged from the backside of the tank...
perfect little cave for them to protect...

Pretty smart, I think...I was wondering where they were gonna carry them off to.

short vid on the new location...
(sorry about the shaky vid, it's a long way to the fitting)[YT] <object width="980" height="765"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jC0ihgTziq8&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jC0ihgTziq8&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="980" height="765"></embed></object>[/YT]

they found 2 different bulkhead "caves" to hang out in...
1 - 1.5" (bottom of tank, top video)
and
1 - 2" (top of tank, bottom video)

Seems they are spawning like clockwork.
You bet "G"!...
I thought I might have confused them, by culling spawn Two and Three, but all I had to do was to lift out the clay pot and wash off the eggs...;)

however,
I didn't replace their clay pot this time and she "decorated" the side of Hydro-sponge V. I was thinking I could delay this Spawn #4, but dummy me...

They have been great parents, and it wasn't till yesterday, that they chewed the last 3 remaining fry from the first spawn, protecting the new free swimmers...

Doesn't 8 days from fresh spawn to free swimmers seem awfully quick?
Maybe it was the fact they are hatched in the 225g from the start?
or
Maybe the way the eggs were under constantly moving water, being on the sponge?
At any rate, this spawn is proving to be as interesting as the first one...

I wish I could have video documented, some of the antics that Mom and Dad have done while keeping the first spawns fry, at bay...

Just the move from the sponge to the bulkhead "cave" was very interesting. The way MoM would give diversion and cover to DaD, while he cleverly moved the wigglers, the "long" way to the bulkhead...
