Are there any special requirements to set this up, or is it just biochar in a standard reactor? How often do you have to replace it?
Only good flow thru the biochar, and a way to collect any light floaters. Tentatively I am trying to figure that out. I think if I filled my reactor to the top, maybe once every 6 months?? I am posting my findings regularly on this thread. But with dead fish, and other things. It's too early to tell exactly.

Tried using char as a high volume percolate media. It plugs up and water overflows. I think I might need to flush out my 55 gallon WC barrel as it can accumulate several gallons of detris.

After several months with minimal water changes, it seams as the Nitrate Factory, was producing more nitrates than the biochar could remove. I ONLY need to open two valves and my nitrates will drop by 30%, maybe Sunday. I want to see the biochar drop it down first.

I just remembered,,I should also clean out my overflow box. Then open the valves on the 55 gallon WC barrel. Need it for cooling, as my liquid cooled lights, need the extra volume to keep the tank from boiling. Makes a nice basement heater also.
