Zero water change kit

"Eco Magic Filtration System is designed to eliminate the fish keeper's dependency on water changes in maintaining a safe, healthy aquarium environment. The Eco Magic Filtration System provides the easiest and most efficient operation of the Nitrogen Cycle (biological filtation) for freshwater and marine aquarium environments.

The flow of waer throught the towers (and through the gravel bed of the aquarium) is optimal for these bacteria to convert fish wastes (ammonia) into nitrite, and nitrite into nitrates. Ammonia, nitrite and exceptionally high nitrate levels are harmful to fish and aquatic invertebrates. Mechanical/chemical filtration is provided by the Eco Power Filter whis is included in your kit.
Additional chemical filtration is provided by the media inside the Clean Magic packs, and are replaced every other week. Nitrates are also removed by the natral actions of live plants, which are encouraged to grow by the gravel bed of the undergravel filter."

it doesn't say anywhere on there that the filters remove nitrates. it says that keeping live plants in the gravel bed removes nitrates.

its simply a neat looking undergravel filter.

Hey guys here's a picture of the test results nitrite and nitrate are at 0 ph is at 6.5 the other two are alkalinity and hardness at around 80 i would say and my fish seem to be doing fine...

Fishynewbie12,
I dont know anything about this product your trying but I do admire the way you are approaching this project despite all the negativity. An open minded approach should always be commended. Chemical removal of nitrate is quite an easy process.

I used to be a distributor for AustMarine seafood tanks and these tanks DID NOT require any water changes either. These tanks are designed for high throughput and handled hundreds of kilograms of live product weekly ie - a HUGE organic and bio-load. These were commercial units though so pretty expensive.

Is there any reading of ammonia on it?

Yes that'll be the first thing to show up, although i bet they just put a whole lot of ammonia absorbing resins in filtration.

the test strip starting from left to right tests for Nitrate, Nitrite, pH, Alkalinity, and Hardness, i didn't get anything to test for ammonia ill have to pick something up next time i get fish food.

Gimmick to make money - and it worked.

Just because your water quality tests good, does not mean its the best quality for the fish in the tank. Fish and Nitrifying bacteria need nutrients.

Nutrient levels will get low, over time this impact your pH. It will also impact the osmosis system in all your inhabitants, causing stress and eventually a shortened life span and death.

Unless of course you want to spend more money on gimmicks and dose nutrients.. I see alot of 'oldschool' reef tanks run this way, eventually it crashes.

Can you explain osmosis i googled but don't understand Im a newbie

I believe http://hiq-usa.com/Bio_Magic_Nitrogen_cycle_booster.asp provides that nitrifying bacteria with nutrients but I'm not positive, on the hiq site they have a link to a product review in the spot light section. by maqo blog. This guy seems to like it..

From reading the product description, it seems pointless. Pointless because instead of changing the water every couple weeks, you're changing the media instead. And you still need to do water changes, though not as frequently. Sounds like a scam.
