It seems that these northern pikes are so thick, what is the main forage fish in that canal?
Thanks mate!
Well at first you need to know that its not just one canal, all the waters I am fishing in are connected with each other, where I'll be fishing in deep lakes or small ditches, close to home or 50kms away, everything is connect into one big waterway.
It's mostly human made, a few hundred years ago all the transport in my state was done with ships, so every city, village and lake was connected.
The main forage fish in these canals are roach, bream, perch and carp although you also find many other species of fish.
During the colder periods the preyfish like roach and bream search for warmer water, they usually leave the deeper waters and move to warmer waters like small ports, shallow ditches our outskirts from cities or villages. Naturally Pike and Zander will follow there prey and since there is such and abundance of prey and they have little effort catching them. They are starting to grow really thick. 10kg+ pikes are common here.

I'm just wondering why they are so thick in that particular water but have abundance of easy prey did made any sense. In my area, I've found thick-bodied pike in the lakes that contained ciscos, trout, shads, goldeye/mooneye and smelts.

Had lots of sparetime last couple of days and so every day I tried to make some time to go fishing.
Because it's just before the pike's breeding season, it's really all or nothing at this moment.
Some days you catch 5 pike's under an hour, well other days you catch nothing for an entire day.
Last week I spent 4 days trolling with the boat, we caught 0 the first session, 7 in the afternoon the next day including one larger specimen, 0 on an entire sunday from dust till dawn. And then monday we banged 5 including my first zander of the year and another larger pike.
Also spent one evening casting in ditches near my home.
Pictures of last week:

Here are some pictures from the last couple weeks, Didn't got much time to fish so didn't do al lot of catches either.
Caught one nice pike from 77cm while casting from shore and some small pike's from the boat.
Also hooked a breeding bream with my SD as he was protecting it's territory, because it was hooked in it's taill it was quite a fight.
Bought mysellf some quickle release rod holders from berkley and installed them on my boat.
I will upload a picture of my low budget fishing boat soon.
