Something different, this fish belongs to a fren of mine, just tot of sharing

Not a very nice tank for it though is it?

Where is the substrate, floating cover etc? All the things that Channa thrive in and enjoy!
And it looks like a very small tank too!

Very nice snake head, but he's right might want to add some what of a habitat for the poor guy.

This is malaysian style for keeping channa, bare tank. Channa are not skittish fish, imo they dun need all the cover, they're brave enough. As for substrate I think big fish do better without it, substrate will create toxic pocket, when the fish swipe the sand they releases these toxic into the tank and may kill the fish.

Sorry but that is a load of old BS!

I have kept many Channa both large (Marulius, Marulioides, Micropeltes) and many smaller species (even bred a few of them).
All my fish have NEVER suffered any problems with substrate. Even the larger ones that will quite easily destroy plantation I still kept floating cover and lots of driftwood and nylon plants.

As for not needing the cover, it is natural for them to have some kind of cover.
I have friends in Malaysia that beg to differ on your "Malaysian style" tank keeping.

I'm a malaysian and I've been keeping channa since 1985, 99.9% of large channa keepers here do it this way the 0.1% is probably that friend of yours, so you're trying to say you know better?

Keeping large channa in tropical climate with close top plus all the lightings will raise the water temperature to 30-32ºC.
It is never a good idea keeping large channa with substrate, plus you're suggesting deep substrate, if you say other wise it shows how shallow your knowledge on monster fish.

If you say your fish is fine, then they will definitely do better without the substrate.

Please dun torture your fish.

Sorry, I hear mouth farting again.

How on earth is substrate "torturing" my fish?
When did I suggest deep substrate?

It is fact, ANY fish will thrive in water with some kind of foliage in.
Even open swimmers.
You know plantation is important for them to build their nests with.
But I suppose you knew that right?

And I guess that tiny tank is also "Malaysian way" is it? and you think this is optimal?
