My Male Festae Progression Thread-From Egg to Today

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't know what they would be considered by the book, but most likely F2 since at least one of the parents was F1 you probably have to move up one. If I were to sell them, I would personally describe them as F0 x F1 fry.

As far as the Dovii and Festae breeding, I'm wasn't worried about two males breeding together. If they did breed, then I would start to worry. ;)

On a side note, is that your and your fish/fishtank in your avatar?
I'm actually glad that question was brought up. I've heard a few different answers on the subject. I have some Festae whose parents are a WC male and a F1 female. Thanks, Balton.

Such the beautiful pair.

About 5"+ or so before I could really figure it out. He was kind of tricky for a while because he was always striped up with a dark black dorsal fin. How big are yours?

.

Mine are about 3-4". i would post pic but I'm out of town right now. I was trying to get a female out of the 3 but I really like them all!! I need more water!

Hey Balton! Great thread here! Just this morning, I was in the process of posting my WC male festae for sale in the local CL and local message board. However, seeing this, it makes me want to keep him too. The problem is, I had him with a perfect matching WC female, but he killed her one night. Reading what you wrote, it seems that your female killed quite a few fish of its kind too. When you introduced that WC male from Rapps to your female, did they just bond or did you do something different? For my pair, before the female died, everyime I introduced them, the male would just chase and beat her. I monitored it many times, but this one time, I was gone for three days and I guess he jumped over the divider and killed the female, then swam back over the divider. Your advice would be awesome. thanks.

Picking up 6 or 8 juvies tonight @ 1/2 to 2 inches from my local store. Have no idea about F1 etc but dont really care.

My local store gets incredible stock and the price is VERY inexpensive for the little ones

Cant wait!

Congrats on your new Juvies. Don't forget to post some pics when they're settled in.

Sorry to hear about your Festae. If it's important to you, you should try again. It took me many times before I was successful. When I added the large F0 male, it was like love at first site if there's such a thing with fish. The other male's she killed were her same size or only a slight bit bigger whereas this one was at least double her size/mass. I'm guess I was lucky that he didn't kill her.
