too lazy to read all the comments, sounds like the typical mfk argument, i tip 10 percent, 15 percent if she's cute, round down if it's a guy, round up if it's a girl, regardless of service. i just do it, i don't even think about it.

I tip £6 ($10 USD) regardless of bill price. However, my rules are; allow food to take 30 mins if in restaurant and 1.5 hours if delivery, if the order is messed up more than once or is completely not what I ordered then you will not get a tip. I always ask for two jugs of water (one with ice, one without) at the beginning to reduce the amount of times the waiter/ waitress is coming over. I don't like to complain but if I do then it will be about the food being late and/or the order being wrong (I don't make 'special' orders that have to be re-done if its wrong).
P.S I even tip the guy who cleans the toilets before and after you go at the emirates palace EVERY TIME :')

that's only 10 percent, pretty standard for most people. were you with the wife or you'd have tipped her slightly more?
I hope we're still friends after this because it's nothing personal.....but YES it makes you, and anyone for that matter, a cheapskate.
(This is not meant as an attack and I'm sorry if it offends you. Just stating the facts, and I have other cheapskate friends btw.)
Another reason I don't like tipping, is that's it's biased towards a few industries, while others are completely ignored. What's so special about somebody that's supposed to fetch your food and drinks? Would you also tip your doctor? Dentist? What about your plumber? Or the guy that fixed your AC? Or the guy who replaced the roof on your house? Or what about the guy that came to hook up your cable or satellite dish? Your mechanic? The guy who bags your groceries? Your butcher? The delivery guy who brings packages to your door? And why not the salesmen who sold you your car? How much time did he spend with you answering questions, taking you on a test drive? Waiting around while you 'kick the tires'??? Why not those guys? And why not tip your cell phone company? They're providing a truly invaluable service.
See what I mean? This is why I view tipping a such a stupid practice, because people think only waiters and barbers should get tipped. If you really think about, any time you spend money, you're getting a service. Whether it be a purchase or a bill you receive in the mail. Where do you draw the line?

I don't see myself as a cheapskate, and I really don't care what anybody says. I already pay for the product or the end result (in the form of overpriced meals and drinks), why on Earth should I have to pay for the service to receive the product or result? It makes no sense. That should be the cost of running a business. I shouldn't have to pay for it.

I don't care if you do or not, it doesn't effect me one way or another. If you work for tips it's just part of your profession to get tipped well, poor or somewhere in between. Deal with it.
