were i live fishs are that expensive that a betta costs 5 usd lol a guppy 2 usd, arowna 3" 140 dolars
My store is the same way, were selling sterbai corydoras for 8$, I had a bunch of 1-1.5 inch babys that I raised and asked if they would give me store credit for like 3$ a pop, they said no but would be happy to take them from if I cant find a buyer...greedy
That guy sounds like a real Dbag...Market value,it's a fish not a chunk of gold. Here's another story about that lfs (I'm not giving the name as it's just free publicity for them) I don't like...
I saw that they had a Lapradei. It was probably around 7" I've been wanting one for quite some time and I asked how much it was since it wasn't marked. He told me $40. I'd figured I'd wait it out and see if he'll drop the price since I didn't think anyone would be interested in that Lap any time soon. It looked like a trade in. When I first found this place, the guy told me he didn't do trade ins or take fish from hobbyist because he didn't want to deal with parasites and/or disease, but I started to think that since this was the only Lap they had and it was fairly big compared to fish size they would normally carry, it must've been from a trade in. So a month and a half went by and I asked him again...$40. I waited another 3 weeks and told him to bag it up. He tried to charge me $55I told him that he said $40 last time I asked. He then tried to tell me that the market value for this fish went up and he needs to keep up with the market value...now if he really did buy this fish for resale and he bought it before the market value went up, it still wouldn't have affected his profit margin since he got it before the price inflation
I ended up getting it for $40, but not after we gave each other a hard time about it.
I don't really understand how a lot of people hate paying $10 more than they would really want to pay for a fish (I'm not talking about guppies here). I mean really.....Consider how long that fish is likely to live. If that is the fish you want, just get it. $10 over 10 years is nothing. It's just not worth waiting 6 months hoping that the price will come down a measly $10 if that is the fish that you really want. And put it in perspective. Think about how much money you've dumped into your whole set up.....The fish aren't all that expensive when compared to the set up itself.

Anyway, back to the subject.....I only have a petco here. It's good as far as petco's go. The people there are actually knowledgable, and the fish are REALLY well cared for. But there isn't really anything cool there. I mostly only buy giant danio dithers there, and I'm currently raising a GT from there (growing very nicely and showing good colors btw). I just hate that there isn't anywhere really close to me that has interesting stuff.
I do, however, have about 5 really nice shops within driving distance (they are about an hour away). But they are still too far to just pop in and see what they have on a whim.
Yeah.....That's shady of him to up the price on you at that point. I don't disagree with you on that at all.
But I don't understand why you waited for months after he told you he wasn't coming off of $40. I mean what's the difference between $30 and $40 in the long run if it's the fish that you REALLY want, and you're going to keep it for a long time.
And FYI.....my post wasn't geared specifically to your situation. I've seen a lot of people asking if a 3" GT for $8 is a good deal. I mean.....Really??? That fish is going to live for 15 years if you care for it correctly. What is the difference? Especially when you spent $40 on that cool pink castle![]()
