we were anchored. i dont think ive ever heard of anybody drift fishing the potomac.
will get some pics at some point Jworth after writing this up gotta go hit the gym though.
Went out and casted the two Abu's and casted my BPS extreme some more. I'm impressed with all 3. The 6500c3 is welllllll worth the $100 if you're looking for a fresh or saltwater reel thats strong enough to handle even the biggest fish but isn't too bulky to catch smaller catfish or whatever it is you're looking to catch. Put just a 2oz weight on there and threw the mess out of it. With a good amount of tension on the knob it was still flying a solid 40-45yds, as I use it more and let the tension off I can easily see it reaching 50+ with 2oz. No backlashes
The BPS extreme is still casting great, launches a 3/4oz swimbait about 40 yards and is smooth reeling, still will probably be my last bass pro series reel after doing my research and learning about the plastic gears that make the products die after a few years (and hard to find parts)
The BCX ambassadeur is the one that really gets a bad rep on a lot of reviews, and I think i've figured out why. It casts very respectibly, putting a 3/8oz jighead out about 25 to 30 yards, the tension knob works well and the drag is pretty good. no sticking on the thumb bar etc, but still when you look at reviews about 15-25% of them will be 1 star out of 5 saying its the biggest piece of @#%#@ ever made and that it backlashes like crazy. I casted with that light weight jig head at least 50 times and no backlash, I think I have it figured out. Because the BCX is a cheaper baitcaster and carries the ABU name, it gets labeled in that "beginner baitcaster" group. This is not a baitcaster I would recommend to anybody to be their first one, without an adjustable magnetic breaking system I can see this thing being an unholy terror on those new to the baitcaster. That being said while I can't speak to the long term durability of the reel, it seems to be something that will work just fine for what I want it for, casting GULP! and bucktails at speckled trout and flounder at the beach. If you can find one in the right price range it's not a bad buy. Would I pay retail $65? No, because I could have a 4600c3 for $90, but If you can find one under $50 new (paid 40 for mine) I definitely think it's a solid deal.
