FISHING SEASON 2K12!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
will do J, i already love the c3 without even using it yet lol. taking out the new rods this afternoon after classes and giving em a workout, probably won't catch anything but it'll let me get a feel for em at the least

shoot some pics of all the new gear so we can all wish we were catching fish with our own gear :) I enjoy pics of gear as much as fish anymore. I am getting to be a bit of a gear junkie :) No work tomorrow so thinking I may get out and fish for a couple hours. Wish I could find nice cats around me this time of year but Ill settle for the carp.

Cold weather killing off all the talapia here...last week I caught 47 in about an hour lol, all about 3-5 pounds. Moving on to cats and carp for this cold streak.

will get some pics at some point Jworth after writing this up gotta go hit the gym though.

Went out and casted the two Abu's and casted my BPS extreme some more. I'm impressed with all 3. The 6500c3 is welllllll worth the $100 if you're looking for a fresh or saltwater reel thats strong enough to handle even the biggest fish but isn't too bulky to catch smaller catfish or whatever it is you're looking to catch. Put just a 2oz weight on there and threw the mess out of it. With a good amount of tension on the knob it was still flying a solid 40-45yds, as I use it more and let the tension off I can easily see it reaching 50+ with 2oz. No backlashes

The BPS extreme is still casting great, launches a 3/4oz swimbait about 40 yards and is smooth reeling, still will probably be my last bass pro series reel after doing my research and learning about the plastic gears that make the products die after a few years (and hard to find parts)

The BCX ambassadeur is the one that really gets a bad rep on a lot of reviews, and I think i've figured out why. It casts very respectibly, putting a 3/8oz jighead out about 25 to 30 yards, the tension knob works well and the drag is pretty good. no sticking on the thumb bar etc, but still when you look at reviews about 15-25% of them will be 1 star out of 5 saying its the biggest piece of @#%#@ ever made and that it backlashes like crazy. I casted with that light weight jig head at least 50 times and no backlash, I think I have it figured out. Because the BCX is a cheaper baitcaster and carries the ABU name, it gets labeled in that "beginner baitcaster" group. This is not a baitcaster I would recommend to anybody to be their first one, without an adjustable magnetic breaking system I can see this thing being an unholy terror on those new to the baitcaster. That being said while I can't speak to the long term durability of the reel, it seems to be something that will work just fine for what I want it for, casting GULP! and bucktails at speckled trout and flounder at the beach. If you can find one in the right price range it's not a bad buy. Would I pay retail $65? No, because I could have a 4600c3 for $90, but If you can find one under $50 new (paid 40 for mine) I definitely think it's a solid deal.

we were anchored. i dont think ive ever heard of anybody drift fishing the potomac.

All these guys talk about over here is drifting and not doing as well anchored. Never tried drifting so I cant say but doesnt sound like my cup of tea! Awesome catches though.

Nice write up!

skunked during my 4 hour session... I see the writing on the wall now. Done until it hits 50 in march :( Good news is, Ill be in Florida in a couple weeks!

our fish finder is not exactly the best. mostly use it for a depth finder. working on saving up for a new fancier one. we have no way to mount a trolling motor on our boat so there is no way to control our speed. the bottom of the potomac is very uneven and very few stretches maintain the same depth. id be afriad we get hung up trying to drift.
