never spawned any amphilophus as of yet. the best chance of a well bonded pair is to grow out a group from a small size though.
No. Just give her somewhere to go where he cant get to. I use pvc pipes. She fits into a 2.5" he doesnt. You can also use a small cave. All of my Amphs have been great parents. With the exception of my WC male RD, he can be an ass to his females. But still, a great parent.
After raising and spawning pairs both species I'll say this. Both are quite similar to one another. My isletas were more mellow and tolerated tankmates quite well. My midas was a bruiser who bit, attacked the glass consistently (always 'on') and gained the adoration of friends and family. Very outgoing. The isletas were great but in the end, they left me wanting for something more. The pealing process that midas undergo is quite interesting as well.... If you can find a nice strain that peals after hitting maturity rather than before. MIDAS!!!!!
